I'm 54 and started having oily eyelids. After spending a lot of money on eyelid primers that didn't stop the oil, I started using waterproof eyeshadow (any color). Then to conceal the color I use concealer and a HD powder ( silicone powder ) over it. Then you can either use eyeshadow or not. Make sure to let the waterproof eyeshadow dry before using the concealer. I have not had a problem with oily eyelids since

I wanted to get rid of the problem altogether, that is why I use the waterproof eyeshadow. It can be an inexpensive brand.

uh-oh, i have oily eyelids too! please tell me your "spending a lot of money on eyelid primers that didn't stop the oil" phase didn't include a purchase of Urban Decay Primer Potion? because i ordered that online for like USD20+ with shipping + handling. and then only after i had paid for it, i found out about the ELF one that costs a buck and is receiving equally good reviews. yay me! LOL. :(
thanks for the tip, by the way. i currently don't own a single HD product (i only use this: http://www.beautylish.com/t/vuqrq/bb-creams although i don't know how it photographs yet). i know i have oily eyelids too because eyeliner smudges off me (which is okay if i'm feeling dark and dirty, but i need to be able to look polished for serious functions too).

@peppy g. i would recommend picking up the mineral eyeshadow primer instead. it's $3 instead of $1 and i prefer it- i find it doesn't crease at all (i have oily lids also)

I have the joy of dealing with oily lids as well and I've tried a lot of primers, tips & tricks.. thought I'd chime in with my two cents.
The following have worked with varying degrees of success; I tend to reach for the Smoothie pencils & Paints most frequently - but that's just my preference.
Annabelle Smoothie Eye Shadow Pencils.. an awesome drugstore find. A solid 8 hours of wear time.
ELF's Eye Primer.. the one in the dual-ended, twist-up stick is ok. I can get 4-5 hours before it starts to break down.
MAC's Paint Pots.. the cream textured ones give me anywhere from 4-6 hours, but the metallic finish ones crease almost immediately. I need another base underneath to wear them.
MAC's Paints.. one of my favourite bases. It wears until I take it off which gets me through any day/night, but the longest has been 16+ hours.
MUFE's Aqua Cream.. similar wear time to MAC's paints, but don't love the texture. They dry down quite quickly, so blend fast.
Too Faced Shadow Insurance.. not a fan of the texture, but it gave a good 5-6 hours, but I've developed a sensitivity to it. Burns my lids now. :/
Urban Decay's (Original) Primer Potion.. the first primer that 'worked'. I also figured out that less is more when it come to a lot of primers. Too much of any cream product, whether it's waterproof or not will crease.
The traditional foundation/concealer with powder doesn't work for me, at all. I've tried numerous techniques and the oil on my lids breaks through within 10 minutes. The foundation/concealer is just too emollient to keep the oil at bay. I've even had other MUA's try it and be shocked to see their work dissolving before their eyes.. so no, it's not enough for everyone.
