Just wondering who else here is a vegan?
Or is there anyone who's considering going vegan?
Since I've actually learnt about it, I find it crazy that more people aren't vegan!

I was a practicing vegan for 6 years and then I met my husband...the ultimate beef and potatoes guy. I usually try and create three vegan meals a week that I think he will like. It's been tough though. I've found imitations of his fave meats but he won't touch them within a ten foot pole. :(

I love meat & other animal products but I will choose vegan options if they're available solely for health reasons. ex: almond milk > cow's milk. vegetable oil> melted butter. grilled mushrooms > grilled steak. That sort of thing.
I wish I could fully commit to going vegan (or at least vegetarian) though.

Kensie - you can!! =] Its easy and wonderful. <3
Shelley - so are you eating meat again? or are you still vegan? sorry, I got confused! haha. Remember you can totally co-exist as a vegan with meat eaters! =]

Yep...eating meat once again. But I've been slowly weaning myself off it. Just right now I'm gearing up for a competition and I need the extra protein that chicken provides (I won't touch red meat though...the smell of it cooking makes me ill).

That's such a shame, and I'm sure you know from being vegan for so long that you certainly don't need chicken, or any animal product, to get sufficient protein.
Best of luck for the competition though!

I used to be vegan for a while... but then I missed bacon. :P

I would love to take more animal products out of my diet. I just find it so difficult to stick with it. I've gone as long as a month without red meat and lost so much weight. Then I find myself eating a hamburger, ugh! How do you take the steps to stick with eliminating meat from your diet??

Shelley - I actually have another question - how did your body react to eating flesh and dairy after so long of being vegan? Did you feel ill at all or anything like that at first? Would love to know the effects. x
Andrea - is bacon the only non-vegan thing you eat? Because you would still be making a huge difference if that were the case. I never liked bacon so that was no problem for me :P hehe.
Nicole - yeah, I steer clear of soy as much as I can. I'm not 100% soy free, probably about 80-90% soy free which I'm quite pleased with. =] ugh, how did you eliminate sugar? haha! I'm so bad with sugar. I've switched to brown rice/pasta now though.
Marcie - It's different for everyone, you just need to find what works for you. For examples, meat was the easiest thing for me to cut out. As far as burgers go - almost every where that sells burger, also has at least one veggie burger option. Just get that instead =]
And when it comes to making your meals at home, there's PLENTY of meat substitutes. There's fake meats out there - I can't say I'm a big fan of most of them personally. But you may like some. Majority of them are soy based so I wouldn't suggest them too often. There's things you can make at home, like seitan is a great meat sub and it's so easy! TVP is another great one - I use this for things like lasagne, spaghetti Bolognese, it's fantastic. Then there's more common things like potatoes, chickpeas, mushrooms, tofu. Those are all great in place of meat. Oh and beans! Great source of protein.
Then animal products that aren't meat - mostly easy as pie to replace. There's loads of non-dairy milks and butters and you can hardly tell the difference. Vegan cheese can be a little harder to find - my local supermarket only has vegetarian cheese, not vegan. I have to go to Whole Foods for that.
Marcie, if you'd like any more help, just message me =] I'd love to help you with this. You'll feel so great after cutting out animal products. (Not to mention the happiness you may feel about the good you're doing - for the planet/environment, human rights, animal rights, animal cruelty) So yeah, if you want to know anymore, please just message me. :)

I've been a vegetarian for a year so I don't eat any meat or seafood, but I'm not vegan so I still drink milk and all that.

Lol, honestly, I was just being silly - To be honest, I barely ever eat bacon. XD I was actually forced to stop being vegan by doctors because I had a type of stomach surgery years ago. They highly recommended me to eat lean chicken & turkey for protein everyday & not rely on supplements since I would BARELY ever eat at all.
Being vegan was definitely an interesting experience though!

@Anneka F. When I first ate a piece of chicken after 6 years of no meat I had the worst stomach pains ever. I can't eat too much soy based products and I have to limit myself with the imitation meat products because they are high in sodium and preservatives. To add more confusion to the mix I had a battle with stomach cancer a few years ago and now I can't eat nuts....like peanuts, almonds, etc because they irritate my lower intestine. And my doctors suggested just sticking to the old school route and having some meat like chicken and turkey as long as its without hormones. It's tough and it makes for some interesting cooking on the homefront. But sadly even the healthy stuff makes me sick. :(

Shelley - that really sucks :( (and means you can't have peanut butter!!! lol) I hope your health is all well now.

I am a vegan, and I have two channels dedicated to vegan things. one is strictly vegan makeup. The other is vegan clothes, cooking, and info about obtaining the lifestyle healthily. I do it for inspiration, for fun, and bc that is who I am so it reflects in what I buy. Not a drop of shame towards others in my videos, bc I view that as prejudice.

I know this post is old, but ...
I am a vegetarian transitioning to a vegan. The only reason why I'm not 100% vegan is cause I live in a dorm type situation and have no control over 80% of what I eat, so I eat veg. However, I have tons of vegan recipes, vegan alternatives for things, and when I go to my mom's on the weekend I eat 100% vegan food. Transitioning to a vegan diet seems pretty easy as long as you're prepared to cook more. They say that vegan diets may lack iron, b12, calcium, omega 3, and vitamin D, but as long as you eat fortified or have this vitamins naturally occurring, you don't need supplements.
As for soy, I say anything in moderation. If you go vegan and eat tons of fake meats, soy milk, soy cheese etc, etc, then soy can reek havoc on your hormones (same with milk). I generally only eat soy for fake meats, and try other things (rice milk, almond milk, rice protein powder etc, beans).
As for cosmetics, my primary motivation for veganism is not animal cruelty, so I'm not the most vigilant about these things. However, it seems kind of silly to not eat animals, not wear leather or fur, but still consume animal products in other fashions, so I'm transitioning. Once a skin care, cosmetic, or hair product gets finished, I replace it with a vegan alternative. The hardest will be for foundation/concealer/powder, since most vegan lines don't make anything for people with darker complexions. Hopefully by the time my foundation is finished, they will. Plus, with China requiring animal testing, so many more brands are no longer vegan (i.e. MAC Cosmetics ... I have major sad face now).
I would greatly appreciate any vegan brand recommendations for hair, skin, and make up.
