So my sister in law is getting married (Woot!) And she asked me to be her Make up artist, which is all good. But she asked me if I could help with skin problems. She get's really bad acne, has really dry skin and has acne scars. I have told her that she needs to wash her face in the morning and at night, To moisturize her face before she applies make up and after she washes her face at night and to drink lots of water! But was wondering if there more that she could do to help. She get's married in April 2012, so she has some time. Trying to figure out how to add picture, maybe you guys can help me with that too :)

http://www.murad.com/post-acne-gel.jsp This stuff is seriously amazing, you've no idea! ^.^ It's an investment, sure, but it's a worthwhile one. And instead of using harsh cleansers and scrubs, switch to a cream wash like CeraVe or Cetaphil. They're SO much more gentle than foaming cleansers! I know a lot of people think it's total BS, but cutting down on sugar is totally helpful! I know that eliminating soda from my diet, and sticking to just water, has made my face SO much better! And if she can, she should go to a dermatologist. They'll recommend what's best for her. And if she really does have DRY skin, like super super dry, I suggest using a moisturizer three or four times a day. If she's out in the sun a lot, definitely use a sunscreen moisturizer. Since you live in Cali, I assume that she does. :P Here's a link to a really really good one. http://www.neutrogena.com/product/ultra+sheer+dry-touch+sunblock+spf+55.do?sortby=ourPicks This is noncomodegenic, which means it won't clog her pores. It's by far the best everyday facial sunblock I've ever used. When I go skiing or during the summer, I always keep this handy. She can go for a lower SPF, but I wouldn't go under twenty. I seriously hope I helped! Good luck!

Oh, yeah. And consistency. Nothing is truly going to work unless she's consistent with it. (gall I keep switching between you and she, I can't decide, lol)

Since she has a wedding coming up, she is sort of on a budget. She and her fiancee are on a more healthy streak lately, so she has been cutting down on the sugars, but will let her know about the junk food thing. And yeah, she is really terrible at washing her face and going to bed with her make up on, so I will remind her as much as I can :) Thank you for the tips :)

SOOO, normally I wouldn't recommend this.. but a wedding is like a once in a lifetime kind of thing. And the last thing I want to be thinking about when I get married is my Acne. She might want to consider a prescription, like Accutane. It can be a dangerous drug but it can also work absolute miracles for people struggling with bad skin. The severity of her Acne makes me think she'd be eligible for a prescription for it. And the fantastic part? Once you complete your rounds on the drug your skin is typically clear for the rest of your life.

Since shes on a budget I would say to try some Lush products they make great cleansers, toners and moisturizers that are all pretty affordable.
I really like Ocean Salt it helps keep my face clear and stops it from breaking out since using it I only get minor bumps here and there, it is scrubby however so it might be a bit much they also have many other different types of cleansers for problem skin and they will cut you whatever size you like of the product and you can even get samples. For toner they have this one called Tea tree toner and if you get the small bottle its about $10 bucks and it lasts quite sometime, I swear by their toners seriously the best products I have ever used. As for moisturizers they have quite a range so I would suggest just stopping by and talking to a sales associate about which would be best for her skin type.
Hope this helps!

Oh! CeraVe and Cetaphil aren't expensive at all! You can find them at pretty much every drugstore! I also have to say DO NOT POP!!! Popping is the worst thing you can do. If you are consistent with washing and moisturizing, they'll go away on their own. Even without washing they'll go away on their own. The neutrogena sunblock isn't expensive either, and it's definitely something that she'll need. And seriously, I can't stress how important moisturizing is! Your skin gets oily because it's moisturizing itself. If you moisturize it BEFORE it starts to, you'll be golden. Especially since the moisturizer you'd be using is much better for your skin. Yeah... So basically moisturize, sunblock, creme cleanser instead of foaming, DO NOT use scrubs or pop! And LOTS of water! If you're good about this, it should be fine! ^.^

Has she tried Neutrogena Acne Stress Control, 3-in-1 Hydrating Acne Treatment? Murad is also excellent.

Hair Skin and Nail vitamins.
Now I watched a video that talked about cystic acne(I have that) and it was saying that basically an oral anti-biotic is a simple way of clearing up really deep acne. And that because it's so deep under the skin typical acne clearing stuff can't help it. If it's cystic acne, I'd suggest seeing a dermatologist or her doctor. if it's acne that doesn't sit deep under the skin then even stuff like proactive would work, and they have more or less inexpensive kits like 20.00 ones that they can ship right to her. My friend from school was using it and it cleared her skin up 100%. If she has really sensitive skin, i'd go with things with salicylic acid in them it's not as harsh on the skin(in my experience), i've been using the pink grapefruit line from neutrogena and I love it, it cleans well and doesn't over dry my skin, and I use a toner when I get out of the shower(without alcohol), and then moisturize with something oil free for sensitive skin.

Consistency and a strict skin care regimen is essential to great skin. If she is on a budget she should try Body Shop Tea Tree Blemish kit. Its less than $30 for full size cleanser, toner, moisturizer and tea tree oil.

She can purchase the kit at Sephora or at sephora.com

Okay, like I said, cream cleansers. Cream cleansers will make all the difference in her world as far as her skin is concerned. Noelle talked about Proactiv and I flipped out! I was like NO, DON'T DO THAT TO HER!!! That stuff is SO abrasive it's not even funny! I mean, who uses a scrub EVERY DAY? That's insane! I do agree with Sarah B. though, Murad is the freaking shiz! ^.^ I'm afraid that even would be too abrasive. It is a foaming cleanser, and those tend to be bad for people with sensitive dry skin. Though their moisturizers and such are amazing! I mean, I know you aren't responding to any of these comments, but I hope you realize that I'm just trying to help. There is no easy way out of acne, and it's just gonna take consistency. I wish you both the best! http://cerave.com/our-products/hydrating-cleanser/ http://www.cetaphil.com/products/gentle-skin-cleanser/ http://www.murad.com/moisturizers/acne-lotion.jsp http://www.murad.com/treatments/post-acne-gel.jsp http://www.neutrogena.com/product/ultra+sheer+dry-touch+sunblock+spf+55.do?sortby=ourPicks These are the products I recommend you look into. Especially, especially, ESPECIALLY the cream cleansers! I can not tell you enough, cream cleansers!!! >.< haha And also, like everyone else has said, go to a dermatologist. They'll see if they can get her some pills and stuff. While it may be a trial and error sort of deal, it's well worth the time. :D Hope I helped.

A lot of acne kits tend to dry out my skin because it is too strong. I highly recommend Somme Institute 5-Step Regimen. It comes with a cleanser, exfoliant pads, serum, moisturizer and spf. If she's not getting married till April, then I would recommend her using it NOW.
I had acne just like her and my skin is glow now! It's been 4 weeks and my skin has really cleared up. All of my friends and I have seen great results and I'm sure she will too!
Hope this helps :)
