Up the Amp is a good subtle purple or 'starter purple'. OCC Hoochie Lip Tar is a bright obnoxious in your face almost neon purple.I love it.

If you can find it in stock still, Fresh Amour.. from MAC's Posh Paradise collection is lovely. Also co-sign on Violetta & Up The Amp.
Interestingly enough, the Lip Perfection lipsticks from CoverGirl in Divine & Embrace are quite similar to Violetta & Up The Amp.

Illamasqua has one in Kontrol that's a deepish purple and (supposedly) really smooth. There's also Underworld (a bit lighter) and Fetish (bright purple).
I have the wet'n'wild Mega Last l/s in Vamp It Up (a very dark purple), but I wouldn't recommend it; it's very dry.

Beauty Without Cruelty (BWC) do one called Deep Plum (No 51), I found it at an organic shop but I think you can find it online too, it's pretty dark. I also like 17 Lasting Fix Lipstick in Ancient Earth which is more brown toned and subtle, available at Boots in the UK.
