China Glaze Crackle Glaze Nail Polish

Being a gal more about makeup than nails, I wasn't one of the first ladies to freak out about the newest and hottest trend in nail polishes - the crackle polish. I first saw them through a press release from China Glaze a few months ago, but wasn't all that thrilled about it and didn't really bother to look into them. The advertisement showed the complete line and some photos of how the polish looks on the nail, which honestly reminded me of the spray paint cans you see in art supply stores that have a picture of an outdoor lounge chair half painted with a crackle paint looking faux weathered. And I think that might be why I wasn't excited for these polishes, the visual of a weathered nail wasn't all that attractive to me. I began to see tweets, blogs, reviews and tutorials for these polishes left and right, and quickly got burned out by the designs people were sporting.
Last week, my favorite PR gal sent me a trio of crackle polishes to try out and review. I let them sit on the counter for a few days, and this weekend I decided to test drive these polishes.

I was sent Cracked Concrete (a cool gray), Fault Line (a lightly shimmered deep purple), and Broken Hearted (a hot pink)

I invested a good amount of time into deciding what colors I was going to match with these crackles. I already saw a ton of people matching them with random colors and didn't really like that style myself, so I chose to do a few different types of pairing.

The first pair I wanted to keep the colors in the same undertone, so I chose a cool beige to match the cool gray
The second pair I wanted to keep the colors in the same range, so I chose a light purple to match with the deep purple
The third pair I wanted to try the popular style that everyone's been wearing, so I chose a black to sharpen the hot pink

Out of these three pairings I did, I personally like it best when the crackle is used on top of a color that is in the same color range as the crackle polish. I'm a simple lady, and doing the same color pairing looks more attractive, mature and easily wearable for a more modest setting such as work, interview, or meeting. I do think the randomizing style that most people are wearing is a good way to show your creativity and personality, but for me it's just seems a bit tacky.

In conclusion, I'm glad I got to try out these polishes, because I probably wouldn't have bought one to try. I do like the idea of pairing similar colors together, and I most likely will buy the rest of the crackles and some similar colors to wear with them. I would recommend the China Glaze Crackle Glaze nail polishes for people who like to think outside the box and are creative with their nail colors and designs. O, and if you love China Glaze for their quality like I do, then you will be pleased with these polishes.

Here are the 3 I was sent...

Here are the 3 pairings I decided to try...

My Crackle Experiment...

Really? That was actually my least favorite of the combos I did because the pink didn't come out as opaque as the others did. But I will say, I do like the contrast the black gave it.

I have all the crackles and love them. Here's a tip. If you want less crackle use it straight from the bottle for thicker crackles but if you want the crackles thinner drop one or two drops of nail polish remover as it begins to crackle.

I have Fault Line and pair it with a bright coral or pink (CG Shocking Pink or Flip Flop Fantasy) and even a lime green (Nubar Lime or OPI Who The Shrek Are You?). Fault Line is probably my fave outta the crackles.

I just purchased 3 of them but instead of the hot pink i got the teal & the OPI Black shatter! i used to have shatter polish in the 90's im so glad its back!!!!! well its back and WAY better

I love the purple shatter over GOLD polish. The grey crackle would look good over silver as well.
