I have had a youtube account for a couple years now. I always thought of making tutorials, but just always to scared. But now I have decided to go ahead and start my guruness. :) And I just did a major MAJOR haul and have a game plan on what I am going to do! But does anyone have some advice on what I should and shouln't do? It would be really helpful :)

hauls are a great way to start. it's very popular...although some may think it's bragging and prob. leave negative comments...but don't let that discourage you. just be yourself & just share what you have to offer. for example, you just bought a lot of stuff. feel free to share & take the chance. if it doesn't work; try a tutorial ;)

Do you think it would be cheesy to have a get to know me video to start out at first? I have all these ideas I just want a good way to bring people in. Also how do you get people to visit your channel? I have soo many questions. lol I guess that is just me being nervous tho.

there's nothing to be nervous about. just think of it as if you're talking to your friend over a webcam or you're practicing for a speech in front of a mirror lol. & yeah that's another good way to start as well. just make sure you talk clearly & loud enough for your viewers and use a decent quality cam or wc

hello lindsey, i have been doing tutorials on youtube for nearly three years, and i can still remember what it was like starting out for the first time. i was so nervous, and talked really quietly lol. the best advice i can give, is just be yourself. don't pretend to be someone else and talk loudish and clearly.
as said before you will get haters leave nasty comments, but it comes with youtube, and just do what i do with them, give them it back lol
anyway, good luck!
xx

I'm new and I suggest to start with what you truly love doing or what you find the most exciting. I've had that problem too and I was scared to put myself out there. I'll subscribe to you because I know the feeling of, "what if nobody watches my videos and I talk to myself" hahaha! I know lighting and sound is very important! The best quality videos I made was from natural light so if I decide to do a video, I have to do it between certain hours. Just be yourself and have fun =)

One thing that I find myself really liking in videos is when girls have personality and a sense of humor.. but also when they know how to keep a good pace and not get too caught up in super long descriptions. I also like it when ppl include text to list or describe what they're talking about. Hope that was helpful : )

hi again lindsey, i'm your very first subscriber honey lol
and angela you have hit the nail on the head, and that's basically how you have described me to a T lol
over the time that i have been on youtube, i have seen people start out as normal people like myself, and then change into what i can only describe as a drone. i'm me, and if people don't like me, then move on and find someone else to watch. i've got nearly 600 subscribers though, so i must be doing something right.

I have not videos up of myself, but I can tell you what I like and don't like in other people's videos.
1) Good lighting is a must!!!!!
2) A backdrop keeps me from being distracted by what is going on in the background.
3) Have a script and keep it short and don't try to get too much into one video. I have tried to make videos before and I let my friends see my videos. That was one of their critiques.
4) HAVE FUN WITH IT. Let your passion for make-up shine through. if it starts becoming a hassle to do it then stop. Make sure you are doing things you like and don't try to please everyone. Good make-up is subjective and not everyone likes the same thing. If you try to please too many people you will drive yourself crazy. Having fun with it will keep your energy up. When the person I am watching has a lot of energy I want to watch more and it inspires me to do more.
Good Luck!!!!

Having been posting videos for the past couple of years I've learned a couple of basic things about viewers and the youtube community in general. The first thing I'd suggest is be yourself and try to stay positive when you record your videos. Also, if you could try to concentrate on the subject in the video and keep your video length down it would be a huge help! :)

Ok today I am going to start shooting my first video. I have decided on making a introduction to me video what are some things or questions I should answer?
Jun 3, 2011
Lindsey J.
another thing is how do i get my videos out there to start getting viewers and subscribers? i know i need to be myself and i will but i am talking about like actually having my videos getting watched? do i put a certain title up or anything? that is what i am questioning...

I would not worry about getting subscribers right away, they will come eventually once they realize how awesome your videos are. Don't get discouraged if you do not have subscribers right away, just keep making videos and eventually people will take notice.
I also love getting to know who I am following on youtube, so I think an introduction video is a great idea. :)
