I was told by the dermatologist that MAC foundations aren't good to wear on an everyday basis? I was recommended to try bare minerals. any advice?

Depends on your skin's sensitivity. Some people can wear the heaviest foundations daily with no problems, and others will have issues with tinted moisturizers. Many people absolutely love Bare Minerals, and other people have had reactions ranging from mild to severe because their sensitive to the ingredients. Remember that generalizations are just that, very general.
Do you have any specific sensitivities or allergies that you could compare against an ingredients list?
Personally, I wouldn't suggest wearing something super heavy like MAC's Full Coverage or Dermablend daily, but most consumer level foundations are fine if you keep a good skin care regime.
MAC's Studio Fix used to irritate my skin, but doesn't any more. I haven't had any issue with their Mineralize foundations, but regular Bare Minerals use irritates my skin significantly. I don't have any known cosmetic allergies, but that's been my experience.

I'm allergic to the Mac foundations. I cannot wear their powders or foundations. I like Bare Minerals, but I like the Laura Mercier Mineral Powders a lot better. I think they give a lot better coverage and they come in pressed or loose powder forms, which is nice for travel.
My favorite foundation is the Chanel Teint Innocence. It is really smooth and has nice coverage. However, it is pretty pricey. If you want something powder, I'd try the Laura Mercier Mineral Powders. :)

Can't speak of their cosmetics but I LOVE their Rare Minerals cleansing powder. Yes, powder. You put a quarter size in your palm, wet your finger tips and apply to your skin in circular motions, rinse then pat drive. LOVE it.

I used to use Bare Minerals every day. I've never been a fan of liquid foundation, since it feels heavy and it transfers really bad (for me). I love how light it is, and gives pretty good (but not awesome) coverage and looks completely natural. However, it made my skin itch really bad whenever it was hot or I was doing any kind of physical work. I made the switch to Everyday Minerals not too long ago, and even though it's not as finely milled, I like it a lot better. They give you options on how much coverage/how matte you want it, and there's tons of shades to choose from (which can be a con). It's cheaper, also, so big plus there! You can buy them online, I think at everydayminerals.com.
I've also heard Everyday Minerals's face brushes are amazing...but I don't have any myself.

Bare Minerals are great!! I suggest you go to a counter and let them make you up because the results are so nice. It feels like nothing is there, yet gives you a beautiful natural finish. The coverage is good and it is not bad for your skin at all. I love bare minerals!

i used bare minerals for almost 5 years and loved it but i watched the prices slowly rise and rise and my face started to break out and it got really bad! during the summer it would melt off and my face would itch or look so blotchy. i wont purchase it anymore its not for me and for $30(28 i know) i can get a way better product.
The original has shimmer in it and makes you look super shiny & oily. if you do purchase it go for the matte finish!
I switched to Pur minerals (ulta & online) and its pressed mineral makeup instead of loose. i have never broken out and i actually love it more than bare minerals plus its only $25 and every 6 months at ulta they have a buy 1 get 1 free deal! which bare minerals will never do!

That's odd that the magic of bare minerals goes away after a long period of time, it seems. I wonder why that happens? Maybe the skin gets used to it and it stops working good? Hmmm.

I've been wearing the original formula for years and have no problems with it. I find my skin looks better with continued use compared to not wearing any. I have combination oily-skin that is acne prone.
I suggest going to one of their boutiques and getting a make-under. Wear it for the say and see if you like it that way.

I used Bare Minerals everyday for almost 4 years. It gets messy and the brushes are really rough. The kabuki hurt my face so bad I cried. Also, some people have reactions to bismuth oxychloride which is in bare minerals. Bismuth Oxychloride is not naturally occurring and is a byproduct of copper and lead refining mixed with chloride and water. That's what gives Bare Minerals its shiny appearance. Laura Mercier makes a great mineral foundation, but it is quite pricy. I really like the Red Hot Makeup Mineral Foundations and kabuki. The kabuki is really soft and the foundation has naturally occurring ingredients and it's only $18 for the foundation and $12 for the kabuki. I have really sensitive skin and this foundation doesn't irritate my skin. You can only buy it online right now at http://redhotmakeup.com
