You can also go to a dermatologist and they might recommend "epiduo",I use epiduo and cause I have really really bad acne but I have to say epiduo really works good so I really suggest you go see your dermatologist👌

I use the beauche set. I used it for 1 week now and I can totally see my scar lighten. it has a tone, a clarifying lotion, exfoliating cream, rejuvinating cream and a cleansing bar. also has an age eraser cream that can also be used as a foundation with spf:)

I work at a spa where they only use image and I have to admit it made my face way worse. I have sensitive acne prone oily skin and it did nothing but give me worse breakouts and redness.

I'm a licensed Esthetician and I know that most drug store facial products clog pores and make the problem worse. I use Image Skin care on myself and on my clients and I swear by it.

I have never had SEVERE acne, but enough for it to be a problem! I love Cetaphil Moisturizer! Its around $14 for a huge bottle that lasts me a little over a year! I also use Vita K Professional Acne scar treatment once a day and I also recently found EMC2! It's an amazing product with a radically different approach to fighting acne! I also got it for FREE! score! If you're interested I did a huge review on it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IsITPRxXUhM and I also tell you how you can get it for free! I also explain exactly why the new approach to fighting acne with and OIL based treatment works so well! Sounds crazy, I know...I thought so to. If you also wanna take a look at my skincare video it mentions my entire routine: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xnfnielo6aM Good luck!

@Alyssa I agree with not using a moisturizer. If your skin is oily it is producing that oil because that is how your genes are, not because it isn't moisturized. If that were the case then no one would have dry skin because the skin would produce more oil as needed. I also agree with not using the proactiv toner; it's terrible! I did an ingredient analysis of it on my blog: http://maquilagem-masstige.blogspot.com/2010/05/whats-in-it-wednesday-proactiv.html

Alyssa, sometimes oily skin is compensating for "dry" skin. Sometimes the skin isn't getting hydrated enough, so it produces sebum (or whatever the term for oil on the skin is). So that's why you hear or read that even if you have oily skin, it's good to moisturize your skin. Try moisturizing with the Clean and Clear and see if your oil decreases.

I use the Proactiv Facial Cleanser, and I know everyone has their opinion on it and think it is not a good product to use. It does make your skin more sensitive due to the ingredients that it contains. I find that using the Proactiv cleanser leaves my skin feeling very, very clean and feeling refreshed, as well as it exfoliates great. I used to have very bad acne and the Proactiv has cleared it up quite well. I've used it for about four years now. I don't use the whole three step system though. I find the toner does nothing, and the moisturizer makes my skin oiler. For a toner I use the Biore toner, and I dont even use a moisturizer because my skin is oily as it is. If I were to suggest a cream for afterwards, I would use a Clean and Clear one, that is oil free!

dermatologists can give you doxycycline, which clears up under the skin acne, regular acne, and redness as well.
a lot of acid/peroxide etc treatments dried my skin out very badly (i am oily, but sensitive).
differin works sort of for me, but i like the 1% better than the 3%, which can be too strong. your doctor may have samples of it!
i'd definitely try to get antibiotics though. sometimes it really is the best way to clear your skin up, and after it goes away a little, you will probably be able to stop taking them. i found that once i wasnt trying to "pop" things and touching my face (as the doxycycline made it better), my face was better all together. i don't even have to take it anymore!
try to steer clear of a lot of carbs (and if you are 'of age' this includes drinking as well.) it really does break you out. water is always very helpful, as are vegetables.

TRY NOT TO TOUCH YOUR FACE.. this makes it much worse.
and wash your face, morning and night.
i use the clarisonic mia and clean the brush with alcohol.

the cleanser i use with it is philosophy purity.

I have suffered from acne since middle school. I have just about tried everything. So now all I have been doing is using the Clean & Clear daily face scrub at night and their face wash in the morning. I found out how important it is to wash your face at least twice a day... It seriously does help with the acne issue! Then at night I use the Clean & Clear Persagel 10% Benzoyl Peroxide treatment cream where I have pimples. I've been doing this consistently for about two weeks and my face is actually clearing up!

@Mandy Witch Hazel-Commonly used plant extract that can have potent antioxidant properties (Sources: Phytotherapy Research, June 2002, pages 364–367; and Journal of Dermatological Science, July 1995, pages 25–34) and some anti-irritant properties (Source: Skin Pharmacology and Applied Skin Physiology, March-April 2002, pages 125–132). However, witch hazel’s high tannin content (and tannin is a potent antioxidant), can also be irritating when used repeatedly on skin because it constricts blood flow. The bark of the witch hazel plant has higher tannin content than the leaves. Steam distillation for producing witch hazel water removes the tannins, but the plant’s astringent qualities are what most believe give it benefit. Alcohol is added during the distillation process, the amount typically being 14–15%. Witch hazel water is distilled from all parts of the plant, so in that sense you never know what you’re getting, though the alcohol content remains (Source: www.naturaldatabase.com; www.drugs.com). Depending on the form of witch hazel, you’re either exposing skin to an irritating amount of alcohol (which causes free radical damage and collagen breakdown), tannins, or both. Moreover, witch hazel contains the fragrance chemical eugenol, which is another source of irritation.

I've been fighting acne since middle school and have tried basically everything in the drugstore, but honestly, since most of them contain variations of the same products: benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid, and benzoyl peroxide does nothing for me, I have cut back on my routine: i exfoliate using st. ive's apricot scrub, i wash my face using cetaphil daily cleanser, i tone using mario badescu, and i spot treat and do an overnight mask using a homemade aspirin mask and it's made my skin GLOW.

Hi, I suffered this problem for many years too and it's no fun. I fhave now found huge success using 'The Skin Care' range from Shiseido, it is not a drugstore brand but not nearly as expensive as many luxury skincare lines and totaly worth the price plus some.Perhaps go to a store that stock's it and ask for the three step in samples. Wishing you ther very best of luck. : ).

Apple cider vinegar and distilled water used as a toner. Keeps the face acidic thus kills bacteria.

Hope this helps!

@Jane I have to warn you that Witch Hazel is a potent irritant. It actually has the potential to cause acne, blackheads, and aging. I believe I went into more detail in my previous comment on this post. I recommend you cut that out of your skin care routine.

Update from my post a week ago... Mandy K. mention she switched to mineral make up in her breakout bouts, and her face cleared up in a month or so. With that being said, I also took her recommendation to another poster about Meow (mineral) Cosmetics, along with her recommendation on Witch Hazel, and with Soma S.'s recommendation on CeraVe (Thank goodness for Beautylish and it's forum!!)... my face is starting to finally clear up.

I use CeraVe's foaming face wash for "normal to oily skin". Seriouly after the first use, my face was really soft (I have never felt it that soft before with any other face wash!). Since CeraVe's line doesn't consist of anti-acne properties, after washing my face and toning it with WH, I rub my prescribe medication (Differean in the AM, and Duac in the PM). Then I top it off with a moisturizer (CeraVe AM lotion in the AM, and CeraVe PM lotion in the PM). The acne medication makes my skin very dry, so I have to use a lotion that works well with my sensitive skin, but still moisturizes like a charm.

To top it off, I have been using mineral make up, and I noticed my skin starting to clear up. Remember how I mentioned when one part of my skin broke out, all hell pretty much broke loose too, well so far so good. I break out with a pimple here and there, but not as bad or big or sore as before.

I guess the moral of the story... 1. see a doctor, 2. use a mild face wash, 3. medicate, 4. moisturize... and lastly, 5. let your skin breathe through out the day with light makeup. I went through tons of foundation from MAC, to MUFE, to Revlon, to Neutrogena, to Loreal, add concealer to that, and my skin didn't get better. The second I switched to mineral make up my face was able to breathe, and stopped breaking out.

Good luck!!!

I agree with Mandy; CeraVe is a more state-of-the-art, modern version of Cetaphil. CeraVe makes great cleansers and lotions, but neither CeraVe nor Cetaphil contain anything that fights acne.
