I am a self-proclaimed collector of makeup. I don't simply purchase so that I have the latest and greatest (though I like to stay on top of trends), I purchase to collect colors, products, etc. that catch my eye or work magnificently. I wear a lot of different colors, so having a wide variety is a must!
What about you? What motivates you when you purchase cosmetics? Are you continually on the hunt for new products to add to your collection because of the special qualities they possess? Do you buy so that you're always in-step with the hottest beauty trends? Or do you purchase whenever you feel like it for no particular reason?
I'm not talking so much about basic purchases used for maintenance on a regular basis (cleansers, moisturizers, etc.), I'm referring more to eye shadows, lip products, liners, etc. Anything that may be released in special colors or formulas!

You're hilaaaarious haha ;)
I guess I've had a bit of a break from work and the kids have been sick so I've been stuck inside! I have 4 or 5 more posts I need to schedule for later in the week. So many products stacked up for review that I finally did them because I couldn't do anything else ;)

hi, my name is ashley, & i'm addicted to make up.
*hi ashley*
haha really, i don't know. sometimes i want to try a product or i hear a great review about it. or if it's on sale & i've got a coupon...& i've got coupons! (; like today, i had a coupon for BOGO free on wet n wild products at CVS, so i bought two of their e/s palettes. i don't do a lot of HE products so i'm not out chasing out the latest MAC LE products.
now nail polish? i will throw some bows to get my hands on a LE polish. i will hunt it down to the ends of the earth & threaten a sally's employee to get my nail polish. (okay maybe not threaten but strongly imply that i NEED a polish from china glaze's christmas collection & will do almost anything to get it. thank goodness she's a friend from high school & she's trying to get me a part time job there.)
buuuuuut, you didn't ask about nail polish. ^_^ apologizes.

I don't normally buy from collections, I just buy what I'm drawn too. Now I buy to add to my makeup kit... but I still buy random things just for me..

I'd have to say I have a teensy addiction to lipsticks and glosses. Not any particular brand or collection, just love my lippies. Now I did buy the too faced holiday "dreams" palette but that's out of the norm for me. I haven't even touched it yet I just keep staring at the pretty colors and sparkles like an idiot!

You guys are hilarious! I'm so glad I'm among makeup-addicted friends haha ;) I think this thread would probably make us all look a bit nutty otherwise. I'm happy with my addiction though!

I'm a big believer in variety and I think that's what made my collection grow to what it has. I am most definitely not a girl with an "everyday look" because that's just a waste of all the colors and formulations out there! I don't buy on-trend and I don't buy entire collections; I don't aim high or low either, just what catches my eye. I have brands I prefer and try to get as many colors as I can that I think I'll use, but it's never with *collecting* in mind. I intend to use all of this, so that means it's okay to have bought it all! Right?

I'm both! lol. I collect anything from hair care products, to makeup, to skincare products and all the in-betweens. It's nice to be able to choose from multiple products instead of just one everyday. I also like trying new things out sometimes, cause you never know if something else may work better for you. At the same time though, I only purchase stuff that I will personally use and that suits what my hair/skin needs, so I don't just purchase for the sake of having lots of stuff.

Usually I buy makeup that catches my eye, but if some of my favorite gurus say they really like a product; I might just go ahead and try it out :)

I actually try to keep my makeup collection fairly small...I like to use everything that I have! I would say eye-shadow or lip color is the only area where I'll have a lot of products that I don't really use on a daily basis (with the exception of the Naked palette). As far as foundation, primer, concealer etc I only have 1 or 2 (at most) of each and use them everyday =) I try to use those up before replacing them.

"Do you purchase makeup to collect it, stay trendy, or just because?" - All three.

Crazy how personal our makeup buying habits are, right? Though I suppose it makes sense if you take makeup seriously--it becomes super personal! ;)
