My face is extra dry this winter :(

My face generally gets more on the dry side during the winter, but this year it's BAD. It's constantly dry and flakey no matter what I do.

I was using CeraVe's hydrating cleanser and switched to Yes to Carrots Nourishing face wash which has helped a bit, but not much. I use Mario Badescu's collagen moisturizer. I try to exfoliate also to get rid of the flakes but by the end of the day they are all back again.

Any tips or products to help this?

You should try Cetaphil. I use the Gentle Daily Cleanser and the Advanced Ultra Hydrating Lotion. the lotion is REALLYmoisturizing and I guarantee it will LAST!!!

I used to use the Cetaphil moisturizer and I did like it, so I might check them out again. Thanks!

Hi Gracey, I am a Licensed Esthetician. I agree that cetaphil is a GREAT moisturizer, I use it myself. Exfoliate with Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant 2-3x week using a warm washcloth or cleansing brush such as Olay or Clarisonic. If you have the budget monthly microdermabrasion or glycolic peel are beneficial for exfoliating/polishing dead skin cells and allowing your skin to hold in moisture.

My skin tends to get drier in the winter, and I swear by Angels On Bare Skin (cleanser) from Lush. I'd also suggest a very rich moisturiser, I use Palmer's cocoa butter :)

Thanks for the tips Jena and Zoe :)
I'm going to ask for a Clarisonic for Christmas this year, it seems like it does amazing things haha.

I actually used to use it but I remember it made my face extra oily, but I guess I should give it a try again since my skin is in such bad shape. Thanks for the suggestion :)

I have the same problem, I guess the air is dryer, so your skin lose moisture. I'm using Bioré hard day's night overnight moisturizer and is working wonders for me, is very lightweight, and doesn't feel oily, and the best is very cheap.

This always happens to me in the winter time too. I find E45 Emollient Wash Cream is amazing at clearing up dry spells as it is also commonly used amongst eczema suffers! It's also very, very cheap.

I actually remember getting a sample of SkinCeuticals Hydrating B5 lotion once, that I would put on before my moisturizer and it did WONDERS for my dehydrated skin. It's really expensive though so at Ulta today I bought Mario Badescu's Rose Hips Nourishing Oil to use before my moisturizer. I hope it helps, I'll let you all know the results :) Thanks for the suggestions :)

Oh my gosh, I have the perfect thing for you!! :)
Try Extra Virgin Olive Oil!! It works wonders on your skin. :)

You can watch my latest video on it here :) xo

@Taylor - did you know some people are allergic to olive oil?

My own recommendation is unpasteurized honey and yogurt so long as the person is not allergic to honey or yogurt. Mix 1 tablespoon of honey with 1 tablespoon plain yogurt and apply to face after a shower/bath. Let sit on face for 10 to 15 minutes, rinse with warm water. What the honey and yogurt does is moisturize your skin. There are more benefits from using honey and yogurt but when used together it does add moisture to your face.

@Yasmin You can be allergic to anything, she didn't mention if she was allergic to olive oil or not. Other than that there are 100 other oils that are great for your skin that you can try.

My face gets terrible in the winter as well, its even worse for me because my face only gets dry in patches, which makes it look quite odd haha I try and use anything with oatmeal in it, or even a homemade oatmeal treatment--oatmeal is a natural healer for dry itchy skin. I also use my Origins Face Moisturizer or my Mario Badescu one! Don't lose hope, it happens to the best of us :) Also be sure to drink a lot of water to stay hydrated and moisturize at night so that your skin can heal overnight and you wake up with supple looking plump skin :) xox

I second Damaris. I use either Cetaphil Moisturizing cream in the winter, or I use Clinique's Moisturizing lotion. Non-irritating, and I have never broken out with either. Coconut oil is also good to apply after cleansing before bed.

When I get super dry I up the exfoliation, big time.

Enzyme masks (like ones that contain papaya or pumpkin) are great because they eat the dead skin cells. I know, eww.. but it helps. I also like at home glycolic acid peels like the one from Elizabeth Arden. Instead of just using heavier creams I layer my moisturizers and reach for the ones containing retinols (CVS brand deep wrinkle serum) and lotions with alpha hydroxy acids. Wait ten minutes before each application so each product has time to sink in seperately. I also take my makeup off with Neutrogena wipes because I find most soap/water methods much too drying.

Before bed I apply my actual night cream.. lately I've been using Olay Regenerist. In the morning I start all over again with Philosophy's Miracle Worker AM (glycolic acid wipes) and then apply Aveeno Clear Complexion lotion.

Every other night or so I put good old oil right on my face. Yep! Sometimes coconut oil but usually Josie Maran's Argan Oil. Makes a huge difference and doesn't break out my acne prone skin at all.

After a week or so of the routine my skin gets somewhat back to normal.
