Ok, so I have plans to get a tattoo tonight. I've already showed the artist what i want, but i'm just waiting until after cheerleading practice to get it. What do y'all guys think about permanent tattoos? Are there any tips for treating, healing, and enduring the tattooing pain?!

iiiiiii freaking love tats. i have 1 on each wrist and wouldn't change it for the world.
for treating/healing your tat, the artist will talk it out with you but i definitely recommend "tattoo goo". you can double check the name with them but it's really great.
when you first get it done, it might bleed. it depends on you but it could happen. my wrists bled a little bit. as for the pain, well think of having a sunburn and a cat scratching at it. some artists play music while they work (like mine did), so try concentrating on the beat to calm yourself. most artists won't stop every 2 seconds for you to freak out and could end up not finishing your tat at all. if you have any level of tolerance for pain, you should be okay!
afterwards, i wasn't expecting. it swells up and is very tender for a few days. you have to keep it clean and moisturized. once it starts healing, your tat starts to flake. DO NOT PEEL AT IT. i can't even stress that enough. it'll rip half the pigment out of your skin and ruin your tattoo.
i found mine to be itchy. try not to scratch it too much, as you might catch a scab and rip it off like i did on a very small part.
good luck! and let us know how it went when you get back!

@Samantha G.
what are the tattos look like on your wrists?
and I have been thinking of getting one but don't know where yet, mine will say "live with no fear" I think of getting it on my upper back and some wings, but not sure.
I hate needles so even though I am sure I'll endure the pain, I am a chicken when it comes to needles!

one says stay and one says true in cursive. each has a small black star above the word
i hate needles too but this is just.. different i guess? it doesn't look like a big long needle. it's like a chunky pen!

I hate needles, because this lady when I was lil tried to inject me with one and she had the fame of being a b*tch with kids, so I runned to the closet and hid there for like 2 hourd till she left....
yeah thats the reason why I hate them lol.
but as that saying says "no pain no gain" or whatever true though :D
BTW your tats sound to be hella nice, you have any pics.
If I get the courage to get mine it will be a thing i live with, no fear of life, meaning that we only have one life, and we have to live it to the fullest <3

I have 8 tattoos and I love each and everyone of them. The thing I would recommend the most is to not over moisturize the area as it's healing. If you do, the tattoo will form a thick scab and take longer to heal. Also, it has the potential of taking some ink with it if you pick at it, which you should never do! I have 2 on my wrists, 2 on my ankles, 1 on either side of my ribs/hips, one on my lower right side of my back and one that goes all the way down the left side of my back. I plan on getting another one soon.

Also for pain, if you're really anxious you can try taking an advil 30 minutes prior but it's tolerable. Certain areas are more sensitive and tender than others...where are planning on getting yours? I have mine in several areas and can let you know...

I'm planning on getting it on my lower back. What should i use for a moisturizer? I use st.ives moisturizing lotion daily, is that ok to put on my tattooed area? What about to stop the itching? a cold towel maybe?

As long as it isn't scented that should be fine. I use Lubriderm. But I do agree with using the Tattoo Goo over A&D ointment for the first 3 or 4 days. To stop the itching, you slap the area. I wouldn't use a cold towel because you don't want to over moisturize your tattoo. Also, don't take long hot showers and always pat dry the area and not rub.

i love love love tattoos. i plan on getting my entire back done, and getting a leg piece really soon. tattoos are painful, but depending on how your pain tolerence will let you know if it'll really hurt you.
the healing process isnt bad. you just gotta make sure you moisturize it, but dont drench it in lotion. no scented lotions either. that can irriate the tattoo since it's an open wound. also dont try to take a shower and completely wash your tattoo under water. if you do that, some of the ink could bleed a bit and make it not stand out as much as it should. other than that, tattoos are awesome! goodluck with it :D

Oh my gosh. DO NOT take Advil or any ibprophen of any kind a little bit before like someone else said. It acts as a blood thinner haha so yeah definitely don't do that.

I took Vicodin before getting my tattoo and it still hurt like a B**** ! It was on my hip. My second one was on my back and it hardly hurt & I took no pills

lol thanks y'all. I actually got it last year. I didn't take any kind of pain reliever and it wasn't necessary. I was fine!(: thanks for the advice!

I think they are a great idea! I'm planning on getting one over the summer after graduation! They are the one true form of self expression that stays with you in life and death. Congratulations!
