Okay, so tomorrow I'm spending all day out on a boat and I thought that it would be a good opportunity to try to lighten my hair a little. I've heard a lot about people doing this by putting lemon juice in their hair and then going outside and letting their hair get sun. Does anyone know anything about this? I'm afraid it might dry out my hair, so I thought about adding deep conditioner to the lemon juice, but I didn't know if that would somehow make the process not work.

No, that should work! I saw a small article in seventeen magazine where you add .. I think it was orange, lemon + lime & conditioner and apply it. :)

Lemon juice works but remember it's an acid so it will not only lighten your hair but strip it of it's natural oils. On top of it, as Jennifer mentioned, it tends to turn brassy (orange). If you want inexpensive highlights go to a cosmetology school. Most schools charge under $30 to get highlights done.
