Lime Crime Controversy?

So I know this may be old news since this stuff seems to date back to 2003 and I do feel as though I live under a rock sometimes, but I had never heard about it until stumbling across this last night on Tumblr. It's a very well put together and organized timeline dating back to 2003 highlighting a shocking amount of shady actions and behaviors by Doe Deere, the creator / founder of Lime Crime. It goes really in depth and is full of different sources and what looks like legitimate proof to back up each claim in the lengthy timeline.

Some of the things I found really shocking on there were her PayPal account being shut down due to fraudulent activity (ie, setting up a "raffle" in which she said she would donate all the money to an animal shelter, but then refused to give a name of the shelter she was donating to, shut down the contest, deleted it and all of the comments regarding it, took all of the money and then went on her honeymoon...and then PayPal shut down her account when they realized what had happened), forcing and threatening people to take down their own videos and post public apologies when they didn't give Lime Crime products amazing reviews, trying to sabotage Sugarpill Cosmetics when they first launched, the list goes on and on.

ANYWAY, what I'm getting at is, I was just really surprised to have stumbled across this and found it really interesting and thought maybe some other people would too. What are your thoughts?

Lime Crime: A Sordid History

Whoa, hold up. Someone tried to sabotage my Amy? Details, please. I already side eyed the owner of LC when she was so rude to somebody on Tumblr.

@Rikki P. Apparently there's a lot of drama between her and Amy, and I felt the same way as you, I love Amy! So I read in detail all of the things involving the two of them listed in the timeline, and there's a lot - and from what it looks like it all starts from Doe Deere and whenever Amy does get involved, she stays completely professional and positive.

From what I read in that link, Amy and Doe Deere used to be friendly or on good terms back when they were just both primarily eBay sellers, there's a Livejournal thread from 2005 in there where it kind of shows that Amy decides to disassociate herself from Doe Deere because of the way she was handling business / treating other people.

When Sugarpill launched, Doe Deere had sent a Tweet to Amy saying congratulations...and then a few days later a photo showed up (it looks like it was settled that it was photoshopped) of what looked like a Sugarpill palette and then eyeshadows from a wholesale catalogue, saying they were the same and that Amy was repackaging wholesale products and saying that they were her own, basically trying to lay the exact same controversy that Lime Crime had onto the newly launched Sugarpill while congratulating Amy to make it look like it couldn't have been her that made this photo. But like I said, it was pretty much deemed that the photo was photoshopped, and it showed up on the internet before Amy even shipped out any Sugarpill products so no one would have them to make such a photo with, AND the photo came from the same exact camera that Doe Deere was uploading her photos to Flickr from with the same datestamp that says 2027, so it was just wayyy too much of a coincidence for it to be anyone other than Doe Deere.

It also says at some point Amy's Twitter was hacked, and when that happened, it just so happened that her account retweeted a tweet made by Lime Crime.

Then in 2011, at a Beautylish event, Doe Deere asks Kandee Johnson to introduce her to Amy saying that the two don't know eachother and have never met, to which Amy was like "But we do know eachother..." and Doe Deere basically, just stood around Amy and her friends awkwardly kissing her ass with compliments, and pretending nothing had ever happened between the two of them, trying to get photos of them together, etc.

Also in 2011, she starts following all of Amy's followers on Twitter in hopes of getting them to buy from her as opposed to Amy.

In 2012, she took a photo of a makeup look using Sugarpill eyeshadows and posted it claiming it was all done with Lime Crime products.

And that's just a paraphrased version of the things involving Amy that were found in that timeline, that's not even half of it!

I don't believe anything I read on the internet. It is a horrible and evil place (and I like things that are horrible and evil generally!) So many rumors get spread, and people lie all the time. It's really sad and unfortunate because what if these claims aren't true?

Oh, my freakin' word talk about complete nonsense!

@Mia Taryn, I agree, I don't know for a fact that these are true and you definitely can't believe everything you read on the internet, but I thought that this was a pretty interesting / strange find. I'm not really sure what to believe, but I just thought it might make for some interesting discussion. :)

It is interesting discussion...and just because Doe Deere looks sweet, doesn't mean she couldn't be a little bit sour too... LOL.

@Mia Taryn, LOL very true :)

Either way, I love both Lime Crime's and Sugarpill products! Lol And if it wasn't for Lime Crime, I wouldn't have found Sugarpill, Beautylish, and tons of MUAs! :)

@Jaime, I agree! Whether all this crazy stuff is true or not, I still do love Lime Crime lipsticks.  :)

I love their lipsticks the most! I have 9 of their lipsticks plus the velvetines ;P I wish they'd bring back their loose eye shadows! I think they're more pigmented than their pressed eye shadows in my opinion, so I'm saving the loose eye shadow I have for special occasions ;)

I had one of their loose eyeshadows a loooong time ago. I wish I got to try some more shades since I liked the one I had, I think it was 'Cleopatra'. :) I haven't had the chance to try the pressed eyeshadow. The lipsticks are really cool, I'd love to get 'No She Didn't' & 'Mint to Be'. :)

I bought a lot of them when I knew that they were going out, but I don't have the Cleopatra color. I have the Alchemy pallet eye shadows and wasn't too impressed ( the creme matched my skin color), but the lipsticks that went with the bundle are amazing: poisonberry and serptina! No she didn't and mint to be are wonderful, and I love them! They are quite the topic starters! ;P.

I don't have any products from either company. Having said that I came across this last night as I was up all night thanks to insomnia. I went ahead and look at a lot of things online. My opinion in all of this is that there is a lot of things that don't favor Doe Deere. But what really throws me off is that I get the vibe that she is jealous of Shrinkle Very creepy.

Amy is a doll and I own the whole sugarpill collection

@Jaime - The Cleopatra color was really pretty, I wish I still had it, it was a really nice golden color. I'd been wondering about their eyeshadow palettes but was hesitant about trying them out and haven't really had the extra money lately. I'd really like to try out those lipsticks though! :)

@Jessica - I agree, this stuff definitely paints the picture of Doe being very jealous of Amy and a bit of a creeper.

Ah this is too funny! I used to go see Xenia's band, Sky Salt, when I was no older than 13, in NYC and Brooklyn ALL THE TIME. I also used to buy diy clothing from her and amy, who started sugar pill, until I started selling my own around then (2003-2004). Though I used to buy kryolan from amy off of ebay in the early 2000s, I have never tried either Sugar Pill or Lime Crime =/

@Natalie - Lol, when I found this I was like "whaaaat?!" I remember Sky Salt! I never saw them, but I remember them from MySpace days, hah. :) I love Sugarpill and have only tried a couple of things from Lime Crime, but I wasn't disappointed.

I heard about some of this via someone's blog. She said that D.D. bullied her and said anti-fat comments. Again, who knows what's true- but it caused a bit of a controversy online. The blogger also suspected L.C./D.D of repackaging other company's mineral eye shadows and calling them her own. The problem here is- people still love L.C. as a brand and what they put out. All this scandal hasn't made a dent in their business- as evidenced by the new Velvetines constantly being out of stock...But there are plenty of new/indie brands that have outrageous lipcolors so If someone really doesn't want to associate with some shady business practices there's always The Portland Lipstick CO. or Bitch Slap! Cosmetics to name a few. I think I would still buy from L.C. regardless of the drama. Here's the blogger and her side of the story.

This is horrid. I love LC but no I'm having to rethink buying from them!! I don't want to support someone who acts so poorly.

Doe Deere has so much going wrong with her company and herself that I can't see how anyone can support her. she once said stealing was ok, claims her products are vegan which is bogus because they have bees wax in them. when customers offer complaints she decides calling them jealous haters is the way to solve things. many of her customers credit cards got used after people bought her product, but it was not the owner of the credit card using the card to buy things. she claims that there were hackers that got onto Lime Crime database or whatever that hacked people out of card money, but she only said this just now, as opposed to how long its been going on, and frankly, considering she once before said stealing and scamming is ok considering shed sell childrens glasses of 10$ worth online and sold them for 40$ online claiming they were adult glasses, whose to say she didnt steal her customers money herself? she claims to be vegan and cruelty free but momma knows she be loving her fur coats and her meats every once in a while. I don't know about you but thats not my definition of vegan. damn. so much to say about her. she was rude to jeffree star and sugarpill as well, her products cheaply made, she gets fans to bully those who oppose her, makes her instagram private... says those insta photos of her arent photo shopped... please. lol. there is so much wrong with her I don't know where to begin. search up @limecrimeliar on instagram or, I just checked this yesterday, a fun little website that gives you more than enough reason to doubt Does intentions if you havent already. https://encyclopediadramatica.se/Doe_Deere
