Best curling wands for under 30 bucks?

So I got the Remington pearl ceramic curling wand and I don't know, it looks beautiful on my sister and my hair it just makes it look like a 'L' shape, if you know what I mean! Not sure why, we are twins so our hair type should be fairly similar, except hers is a lot longer! Anything I could do to make it look nice, or just get a new one? Low budget btw!
