First I need to know a few things. What foundation do you use? What skin type do you have? how do you apply the foundation (w fingers, stippling brush, sponge etc...) and do you exfoliate and use a primer?

Yes I exfoliate... I have oily skin but its sometimes dry...I use the real techniques foundation brush and sometimes a stippling brush.. I use the elf primer cause its the only one that doesn't break me out at the time.. And my foundation is stila stay all day.

Hmmm okay so you either have combination skin or dehydrated skin. (Which is common for those w oily skin due to lack of moisturizing. Many of those w oily skin believe that moisturizing will make their skin more oily when in fact the skin begins to create more oil without a moisturizer to compensate.) many times makeup appears cakey due to flakes on the skin and dead skin cells. Make sure you keep your skin well exfoliated. When you moisturize keep in mind you should allow product to set for at least 5 mins. You might want to try a mousse foundation. They are awesome because they don't collect in small lines and pores which can create a cakey look

Let me ask one more thing and I think I can give you your answer to the problem! :) are you oily in your t zone and dry else where?... Or vice versa? Or is it just that you have oily skin which sometimes is dry at times?

I do let my lotion sit for 5 mins before foundation... I have a really oily t-zone and its really only dry where I have acne which is on my t-zone... And at the moment I can't change my foundation or my face routine cause I have sensitive skin and I had really bad acne and its starting to clear up really nicely so I can't change anything cause I have dance recital pictures next month.

I see I see. One thing you might consider after this dance recital pictures is changing your moisturizer to something that balances the ph of your skin. I recommend sebamed moisturizing face cream. It is sold in drugstores for about 6 bucks. It will help with your sensitivity and acne problems. Have you ever considered the fact that maybe your skin is so sensitive due to the use of harsh products to deal with your acne? And then in turn the sensitivity leads to more acne problems. It might sound strange but you may want to switch your products to things with more gentle non irritating ingredients such as the simple line sold in stores such as cvs. But anyway, back to the situation at hand. I understand you do not want to switch any of your products currently so let's work with what you have at the moment. Another question... Do you use concealer and and a powder to finish your face routine?

The products for my face that help my acne aren't strong.. They are just right for my acne.. I use noxema and that's the only one that worked... My concealer is the tarte smooth operator with the clay.. I just got that so I know that doesn't have anything to do with oily skin and my powder is makeup forever pro finish...and the lotion I use is a dial one with Shea butter in it... And my acne creams are from a dermatologist and its not strong.
