I used to have short hair but now I am growing it back out. It's at an awkward length where I can barely fit it into a half ponytail. Any suggestions of what I could do so it's not so plain?

Jess, my hair is in the same stage...I have clip in extensiins in on my pic, but ALSO something really good you can do with your hair is twist it up. That way all your layers are secured up in the twists. I have been doing my hair in twists every day for the last few weeks an it keeps it up and out of your way and also looks nice. and the bottom half of your hair that isnt in the twists, you can put into a low ponytail. You will wanna take a shower first and make sure your hair is wet/damp, (towel dry it). You can brush it out if you want to but I don't brush mine because it seems easier to get the twist rows in a straight line all the way back. Anyways the supplies you will need is a good hairspray, 2 packs of NON SLIP little jaw clips (you can get at walmart for $3.50 a pack) make sure they say "non slip grip" or something like that on them or they will just come right out of your hair. And youll need one little hair tie. You should start in the middle and make a twist all the way back til you get to the back of your head, then put 2 clips on the end where you stoppe to hold it in place. Then just continue doing the twists around your head till its all up in the front. Then you just gather what hair is left loose and tie it into a low ponytail, and then hairspray your whole head very well so that way when it dries it will be shiny and tight with no fly-aways. I hope this has helped! :)
