Ok well I have braces. The first 5 days for me were-and I can't put it any other way I'm sorry- were total hell. I thought I'd never eat anything again! Take Advil before you get them on. After that, though, you barely notice them and I still eat whatever I want. Just be careful about food getting stuck in them. :)
After you get them you only have to deal with them hurting when you get them tightened

Thanks guys. And I'm not really looking forward to it. I'm so nervous. But in the end hopefully it pays off! :)

It hurt me for the first week. I couldnt eat not one thing or even touch them. And every month they tightened them for about four months it hurt so bad the first few days then after its fine you barely feel it. And go to every appointment because if you miss one youll have them on longer I was suppose to have them for two years but I missed appointments so I had them for three. Now they're off and I love my teeth😁

I used to get cuts so I told my dentist turned out he forgot to wrap the wire. Anyways they sometimes get caught in your lip or gum just gently unstick it with your finger

Ohhk.. And what about like wax and stuff? Is there certain things I should buy?
Apr 7, 2013
Julie G.
Or ask the orthodontist for?

You can buy wax and it helps. After a while it stops getting caught though. You totally can eat those (even though the dentist will tell you not too) but carefully. You don't want to break a bracket!

Brush your teeth twice a day, ask your orthodontist about a floride toothpaste to use, eat soft food for the first week (or two if needed) such as soups, drink water with your food at lunch and meals so you can get most of the food out of your braces (I know it sounds gross) or brush your teeth after lunch, I just drink water cuz it's easier during school :), don't mess with your braces - sticking fingers in mouth, picking at them, ect., eat soft foods after tightening appointments, take Tylenol or something that relieves pain after you get your braces on. You won't feel anything then but you'll definitely feel it later!!, overall just take good care of your teeth, make sure after they put a new wire or something in move your cheeks, make a fish face, or act like your swishing mouthwash to make sure there aren't any wires poking cuz it hurts when they do! Trust me they won't care if you do that they have probably seen worse! Lol, ask what foods you can and can't eat and be careful with candy and such.
