I wear foundation but I feel like it always looks sort of cakey even though I don't put a lot on. any ways to help that? or any good tinted moisturizers that work good instead?

You could try a primer, or use a bb cream!

I like the elf tinted moisturizer and I love the loreal true match foundation, its light weight and good coverage, also invest in a setting spray there is one my UD elf and mac, the setting spray make the make up look less cakey and more natural

Put on a primer and use a damp sponge/beautyblender to give an airbrush finish. Using your fingers or brush can give a more smeared-on appearance. Don't overpowder.
It might be a problem with the foundation too, some are just naturally very cakey and there's no fixing it. Try Revlon Whipped Creme, Tarte BB cream, Garnier BB cream or Clinique CC cream. :)

Try a bb cream! They're a lot lighter than foundation. Then use concealer to cover problem spots!
