How to get into the makeup profession.

I'm going to college in September for a completely different reason but I really wanted to do something along the lines of makeup for a job whilst I am there, how do I get into something like that with no professional qualifications etc?

Try applying at Sephora! You don't need a professional degree or anything like that. If you're looking into being an artist/expert/ambassador, you'll need some sort of degree in cosmetology so that's harder to find.

Or try being just a local freelance makeup artist! Do makeup for friends, neighborhood ladies etc! Anything really "professional" is going to need a degree or license, just keep that in mind. :)
