I'm pretty sure you should do it when its warm, not hot but warm, you don't want to burn your eye lid.

I don't think you should heat them because then they will get quite thin which will be a harder fix

I do this and my lashes haven't gotten damaged at all. Test the curler on the top of your hand to check if It's too hot or not :) and moisturize your lashes.

I use my blow dryer...just heat it till it is warm to the touch...not too hot or you could risk some serious burns...I don't recommend doing this all the time though because just like heat damage to the hair on your head it can have a negative affect on the health of your lashes...it will make them even more brittle.
