Well, as far as I know (but I might be wrong since I'm a n00b when it comes to make up) you can prevent the lipstick from bleeding if you were to paint the entire lip with a lipliner first and afterwards adding the lipstick on top. It'll also make the lipstick last longer. Also if painting (is it called painting? xD) with thin layers, maybe two or three, and blotting in between it'll add to the amount of time the lipstick will last...
As far as colour, there are different undertones in lipsticks (cold or warm), of course including red, and the colours will pop and look much better if you match the lipsticks undertone with the undertone of your skin...

Covergirl has beautiful red lipsticks and so does the Rimmel London Kate Moss collection!
The Rimmel ones are FABULOUS! I don't know the exact numbers but if you go look at them you can find which red is better for you :)
