Heard it's better to sleep with your hair up?

Has anyone else heard this? Is it really more healthy to sleep with your hair in a braid or a bun?

I will do this some nights. Sometimes, however, I will have my hair up but then for some reason I can't sleep. Then, I take my hair down and I fall asleep instantly. It all depends for me really. :p

I felt the same way Maegan! I didn't know people thought having the hair up is healthier, honestly I always felt like I was hurting my hair. That vein said, I started putting my hair in a loose bun on the top of my hair with some nutrition spray so I don't hit my head on the knot and it doesn't hurt my neck. Typically my hair turns out pretty and wavy. Maybe you could try tying your hair up and using a nourishing spray :)

I have heard that it's better to sleep with it down because the hair tie can cause pulling and snagging causing your hair to break even more... I dont know though. I sleep both ways.

i sometimes go to sleep with 2 loose braids. this way i am able to sleep comfortable which for me is very important because i have a sleeping disorder. And at the same time it wont cause pulling from the hair ties. and it won't break or cause knotting :)

I have thick curly hair and I wear my braided and up in a bun minus my fabric covered rubber band. It keeps my hair from getting tangled and frizzy at night and when I wake up in the morning and unbraid it my hair looks great.

It's to keep the muscles active by pulling them I think. I heard about it somewhere. I personally find it uncomfortable but sometimes I'll to a braid. It's really just for growing your hair it doesn't do much for health.

What Shelley W. said is correct, in general, wearing your hair up or braided will keep your from getting tangled and frizzy at night and if you are the type that tosses and turns then it will lessen the chance of your hair getting caught in the fibers of your pillow case or sheet s and snapping. Another thing is that cotton is a fabric that absorbs moisture so by tying your hair up at night, you would eliminate the amount of hair that is in contact with your pillow case. This is extremely important for people with coarser, drier hair (ie african american or naturally curly/kinky hair) because moisture is usually an issue. That is why you'll find a lot of women with this texture hair tend to sleep on satin or silk pillow cases or wearing satin bonnets because this material won't suck the moisture out of your hair.
