I'm gonna be moving to australia soon and I was looking for jobs as a makeup artist for the beauty counters there, but all the ads say i have to be a "qualified" artist. does that mean that I have to study makeup in Ozz or will my foreign certificate do?

As long as you have a certificate and studied that makes you qualified :)

i love jodik76, she isn't a makeup artist as far as I can tell but she does a lot of product reviews, hauls, and very helpful videos :)

Aw kool :)

Hi Meg! I'm a makeup artist from Australia but I obtained my Makeup Artistry Diploma in Canada. That was 8yrs ago too, and I got a job at MAC with that diploma (along with other stuff)..so you'll be fine :)

Hi Shanti, one more question. Is there like a MUA Association in Australia?

Hi meg whats your last name ?

Hey no worries mate! :) I'm sure there is, you're meaning like a Union right? There must be, but I'm not a member as I don't belong to an agency or anything yet. One day though! :)
Yeah don't worry about obtaining your credentials overseas. If you're looking for counter work here, they'd more than likely get you to do a trial makeup anyway where you can display the skills you have too. I no longer work for MAC, I freelance now and more often than not people are impressed with an international diploma. It helps, not hinders :) If you need any help when you get here, you can email me at makeupbyshanti@hotmail.com. I'm from Sydney so I'm happy to help you out however I can :)

Thanks again Shanti, that makes me feel so much better :)

Hey Meg, I am a UK MUA working her in Australia as everyone else has said you will be fine, when you get here you can try Momentum promotions http://www.momentumpromotions.com.au/ourservices and Benefit are always looking. My friend who is just a retail artist she works through Momentum and she works on different brands makeup counters through them. Good Aussie mua wise look at Molly Oakfield, Rae Morris, Vanessa Collins, they are all international, just gaining experience, assisting etc and networking will help when you come over here. Good luck hun x

Thanks Dollhousem, that certainly has got my confidence up. I've been practicing and playing with makeup since 2010, but I never went to school, so I wasn't sure if I had to do it there or I can do it while in Manila, just to show that I'm certified. I've done several photoshoots for photographer friends, all for free, but nothing major like magazines or the likes.

I will definitely look into Benefit and Mometum.
