I've been using my hands to put on liquid foundation? Is this right because I see other people using brushes, what techniques do you use with brushes and what sort of brushes do you need?

Use a foundation brush. it spreads the foundation on more evenly or you can use sponges. your hands don't spread your foundation on as well.

There's this brush that is like flat kinda (I don't know what it's called) but I just use a make up sponge for my foundation and it works fine :)

Well, I would really concider using a sponge, beautyblenders are amazing. If you have dry skin I would not go with using a brush, because it will only make the foundation cling to the dry spots or blemishes if you have that. If your skin is combination to oily ski. Though, a brush could be good. Kabukibrushes are very popular nowadays, and also the real techniques brush set. To apply liquid foundation you should use a brush with synthetic fibres to get that soft and flawless look. Hope this answered some of your questions or helped.. :)

I use a flat top sometimes but only with really liquids foundations. But I love using a stippling brush cause it gives an airbrushed finish.

Take a makeup wedge and dampen it and use it to do your makeup and you would get an amazing flawless look.

Fingers are actually okay since you're doing it on yourself! You just have to make sure they're very clean. Using fingers is a great technique too!
If you want to use brushes, look at the foundation you use.
If it's liquidy/watery, get a stippling brush (elf's $3 is great!). To use it, dot the foundation all over the face, then use the brush to make dotting /quick up and down motions to blend.
If it's thicker/whipped texture, use a foundation brush and a painting motion.

Sponges will absorb liquid foundations and your product will be wasted so I recommend a proper foundation or stipling brush.
