Use some black gel or any gel you have on hand or moose or any holding product and some oil. and get some bobby pins if you need and 2-3 hair tyes.
here's what you do use oil all over your hair. now brush amd start trying to flatten what will become a bun than when you feel it manageable you can use the holding product making sure post of it is on the top to flatten the hair now use two hair tyes if you have one its fine...but two would be best to get a tight pony. than brush the top carefully once more of needed and than make your bun if you have a finishing spray like some oil sheen or spritz a holding spray you can add this
Ii had a client who did this and we usually give her a tight bun

It's okay, before beauty school I'm sure I would have suggested the same hahaha until I've actually worked with African American hair. Just make a tight bun using product girl your poof will look prim and proper (;

No offense Anistar, but if you've worked with African American hair ,you should know that putting it in a tight bun/pony will damage the hair, shafts and the roots. Mia, try to put conditioner in a spray bottle and then add water. Spray onto your hair and comb it through! It will make your hair more manageable, and it will help kept it tame! What I wash by hair with, is ACV, which smells downright funky but it helps remove product buildup and also add a shine to your hair! Then I thoroughly rinse it out and then continue with my shower. After that I add a quarter size amount of Aussie conditioner and then comb it through and add a bit more. Then I add Shea moisture curl enhancing smoothie for African American hair and I comb that through and spritz with hairspray and I'm in the go! It takes me five to ten m.

Eeeeeeeep! I apologize for my rudeness but African American hair is extremely fragile.

No you weren't rude dear. Putting any hair in a tight anything isn't usually good not just African American hair. I just suggested she do this because her hair is poofy right now that it would help make it look like a good bun. If she didn't tighten the bun than her hair will look poofy on the top. Even straightening your hair is damaging everything we do every day damages the hair a little I only suggested she do this todag with her hair problem not everyday.

Put a head band on and spray it with conditioner or water and keep it moving.
