I want to start to practice SPFX makeup, leaning more towards wounds, burns, gore, zombies, ect. Any opinions on brands to start with?

Monster Makers have just about everything you need and a lot of industry professionals use their products. Just please read all instructions and be very careful. There are chemicals involved that can be very dangerous and cause injury if not used correctly. I would also recommend Tom Savini's books on the subject. His methods are old school compared to some of the processes and materials used today but overall a lot of what is done today was created by him in the 70s and 80s. It's a good foundation and he has some simple techniques. Dick Smith is also another person to look into as he came before Savini and has done a lot in the industry as well. (Probably the most well known, at least in my mind, is the makeup for The Exorcist)

Mehron and Ben Nye are also good brands for the more makeup side of it. Monster Makers has a lot of stuff for making foam latex appliances and whatnot. Mehron has some different bloods and Ben Nye has makeup palettes, etc.

I'd also say to check out petrilude on youtube. he has some great vids on there, including how to do the 'simple' things, like cuts and stuff.
