I think one sides thick the other is not because of the way you part your hair. as for growing it out, just takes times, no heat will help the process go fast. but try doing different hairstyle that don't include heat. and braid it at night

You could part it down the middle sometimes when you get out of the shower. It's simple but it can completely transform a look.
