Going to take you a little to get it down but use youtube for ideas and practice. use one brush for each color or it'll be muddy. when making a smokey eye using your darkest color stop and inch before your desired place and blend out and upwards, it will reach to the place you want. always blend with a new clean brush. qtips are your bff:)

I'm around the same complexion as you are. For colors to show up vibrantly, you're going to need to prime your lids. You can do this with like elfs eyelid primer, or a white matter shadow or a white eyeliner and rub it all over your lids. Then I would get some good but inexpensive products(since you're a beginner) from E.l.f. Or wet n wild.
