Technique and quality tools are both key. For technique, I always apply my eyeshadows with individual brushes, and then blend it all together with a separate fluffy brush (something similar to the MAC 217 brush - you can find a dupe from Coastal Scents for an affordable version). My favorite eye shadow brushes come from OCC and MAC, but you don't always have to spend a lot of money. Coastal Scents, Sonia Kashuk and Makeup Geek are more affordable but still good quality. Buy the best you can afford - good brushes are an investment that last a while!
