I agree in that you should start out with drugstore brand makeup to play around with. one thing I do suggest is finding a good quality foundation. this doesn't necessarily mean a high end brand. just do some research and decided what it is you want in a foundation (mineral, liquid, coverage, ingredients, etc.) and find one that meets most if not all your needs. the reason why I say foundation is because you want a perfect canvas to work with and use as little concealer as possible, if you even need any

To get matched I suggest going to a cosmetic counter. Most will give you samples. Since you're just getting started use the samples to match something from a drug our discount store brand. Paying more for makeup doesn't necessarily mean their better. ELF, NYX, & Wet n Wild are good brands to start off with.

Try out Ben nye banana powder as a highlighting powder that looks gorgeous on darker skin tones. Which makes me jealous that I don't have a darker skin tone :(

ELF has some good brushes at a good price. Once you become more advanced try out some of the other lines.

I recommend the denser brushes from ELFs studio line- avoid their fluffy ones they shed and break right in your hand.
I love their flawless concealer, small powder, tapered foundation brushes.

I highly recommend going to get professionally matched at a makeup counter because you are a beginner,
They'll be able to tell you your undertone and make the experience a pleasurable instead of possibly walking around with a mismatched foundation, and make sure you check it in natural sunlight! That is extremely important
As for brushes I would suggest investing in the best you can, you can do a lot more with high quality brushes than high end makeup. Some not so pricey but good urban decay too faced and
Hope that helps beauty(:

Again, for brushes I would suggest doing your research on those as well. once you start reading about different kinds of brushes you'll realize there's a lot more to them than you may have thought. there's just as many brush brands as there are makeup (most makeup brands make their own brushes as well) but just like makeup, not all are created equal and just because they're expensive doesn't mean they'll be right for you.also, before you buy a set of brushes from one brand (drug or department store) I would buy only one brush and see if you truly want an entire set from that brand. like foundation, just because a brand gets rave reviews doesn't mean it's the right one for you.
