My eyeliner gets all over my lids when I attemp to put it on! Help?

I need some big help. I'm kinda a newbie to the makeup world. I have tried several times to "apply eyeliner". Everytime I attempt it, it gets all over my lid. What can I do to help me??

Try to use pencil or gel. Great for practice until you become a pro then you use liquid

I keep my eye open and apply it. Also you can warm the pencil on the back of your hand. I practiced a lot an started out pulling my lid slightly taunt and then applying it and going back over with a damp qtip to clean up any mistakes. Just keep practicing!!

Yeah try a waterproof liquid or pencil. Make sure you have a makeup remover to take away any smudges

I leave my eye open and use a black pencil and kind of just guess, my pencil is always full though so not as much gets on.
