I think in my mind I'm constantly thinking of ways to make a look pop- I totally agree with Tanya.
One minute I might be doing a "natural look" then I might say hey lets throw in some teal to bring out your eyes.
Also, when a designer or whoever says the concept is like Asian everyone sees it differently he might see very geometric and you might see geisha. So you can be inspired off of others ideas and make awesome work.

Cold theory and drawing classes are great for inspiration! the color palette and emotion of it comes from within! simply creativity at heart. or if not it's just inspired by someone elses creativity 😊
