Help, How to use Retin A?

Retin A makes skin very sensitive to sunlight, so it's best to use at night. Preferably on a clean face, and before moisturizer. Retin A is also very drying so be sure to use plenty of moisturizer. You should probably steer clear of other exfoliating products while your skin gets adjusted to Retin A, because too much exfoliation can cause irritation. I'm speaking from experience because I was out on Retin A as a young teen for acne-- the doctor did not tell me these things and I had to learn the hard way. My face was red, flakey and very irritated, it wasn't until I went back to the doctor that she let me know how to properly use it...go figure. Anyway, good luck!

Start out using twice week (not back to back though). Gabriella gave some valid points as far as use. You also only need a pea size amount to cover the entire face...anymore than that and you're in trouble. If using a moisturizer be sure it doesn't contain active ingredients because you don't want it canceling out the Retin A or giving you a negative reaction. Neutrogena Moisture for Sensitive Skin is a good basic moisturizer.

@Gabriella is absolutely right also you might be over sensitive to it and have to use it every other day or three days a week depending on how your skin tolerates it do not go out without spf of atleast 30 daily because the sun not only breaks down the retin A it will cause you to have hyperpigmentation also stay away from your eye area and the corners of your nose they are sensitive areas retin a travels cell to cell to it will still get to wear you need it even if you do not put it directly on the area
