Hello my name is Liz I have a question for you? What does makeup mean to you? If you're doing makeup to your friend or customer and loves it what does that mean to you personally?

I haven't really thought about what it means to me, but when I do someones makeup it makes me feel happy that they love it and feel pretty. Every girl needs a confidence boost from time to time and it makes me proud that I get to be apart of that moment for them :))

I absolutely love doing other people's make up. I enjoy the transformation. I love buying amazing make up for myself too.

I love getting to use my artistic side with makeup. I'm a creative person but I hadn't quite found my medium until makeup.
The bonus of all this is makeup is a medium where you work directly with another. You can bring out the best in another woman and highlight her best features. That's just if you're using makeup for everyday purposes, that doesn't tap into all the theatrical transformative options.

Make up is the way that certain people express art! I love to try new things and go a little crazy sometimes. Whenever I am working on myself or other people I feel a tick! Knowing that you're helping or giving people confidence is an amazing feeling for both the client and you :)

Makeup artistry is my love, I always say I have foundation running through my veins. It's more then passion its more then making pretty or pictures or popularity or videos, contest or being recognized, none of that stuff matters,it's Not a Hobby. It's what I am, It's me getting lost in the art and making it personal, just me and my brushes applying and create and achieve what is wanted,so much so that I get lost in a trance and focus and when you sit on that chair its all about you and bringing your self out as simple or as extreme as you feel or want to be.As cheesy as people may think this is or may not understand its how I feel about what I do and when I suggest or comment on any thread here on BL understand it comes from me and experience and my love for my Art, its coming from my gut being able to do this for years through the good and bad of the industry, its not easy but worth it when its your drive. I feel like Beautylish is a community of so many who want to learn and explore the world of beauty and its a nice way to share your experiences with all and get inspired. :-) Great thread Elizabeth.

Makeup is like an accessory to me like wearing earrings or a necklace to dress up your outfit.

To me makeup is art and an accessory. It is a way I can express myself with no problems at all. I know a lot of people view it as an art with rules, but I don't agree. Who said I can't wear green lipstick? Why do I have to wear plum lipstick in the fall, why can't I do it in the spring? Why can't I do a bold lip and eye together? There are just so many possibilities and combinations, it's great.

The other thing is, I view it as an accessory. I don't have to wear it all the time. On days when I want to get glamed up I'll put some on, but I'm also free to go a whole week without anything on my face and it's great.

@Jacqueline H WOW! so beautiful that brought me to tears. Describes how I want to feel when I can establish myself as an MUA one day.

I'm not a makeup artist but I'm a avid collector and user of makeup. For myself personally I get a high from trying out new looks and colors on myself. And if I'm in a store full of it and kid free I can spend several hours just playing around with everything. My greatest thrill is having the financial means to donate cosmetics to those who are unable to purchase for themselves due to life circumstances. I'm an advocate and volunteer for local domestic violence shelter and many of my clients leave violent situations with just the clothes on their backs. The last thing they are thinking about is grabbing their makeup if they only have minutes to grab a few items. So when my husband and I come in with our quarterly hauls to see their faces just light up at the sight of lipstick or even something as small as a tube of mascara...priceless. Then I have some clients who've never touched makeup at all and when we do makeovers they are just amazed at the transformation. Makeup to these women uplift them...allowing them to not think about their situations for just a little bit. To see them smile and laugh just makes my entire week.
