I have naturally curly hair too and the key is is using a diffuser with your blowdryer. After you get out the shower and wash your hair, diffuse it with the diffuser an it really really makes a hugs difference.

Twist your hair... My hair is spot on like yours, maybe even more worse. The diffuser is okay but my curls are to 'crisped' per say, so all you get out of it is a curly really short bob with too much volume since my curls are tight.
I followed this tutorial with the intention of the hair style: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bf-gRNE0uDs
But when I let my hair loose it had these nice curly shakira type curls that I was very happy with...
