So I am actually twenty but I have never taken the time to actually learn about how to apply and what works for makeup everytime I try it turns into a mess and never looks like I want how can I find a look that suits me as well as what would I need for a basic starter kit

Stop by a Sephora and tell an associate what you told us. That way, you'll get help, you'll be around the products while asking for help, and s/he will probably apply the stuff for you if you ask.

Rikki is 100% right. That'll be the best way for you to get the basics down and walk away with at least the knowledge, if not the products you need. Sephora or Ulta will probably be your best bets because they carry a wide variety of brands at all sorts of price points.

And if you don't have a Sephora, just go to any makeup counter that you have nearby.

A lot of salons have makeup lessons also. I'd rather go to sephora so I can choose which brands to purchase and such. I think basics would be foundation, mascara, eyeliner and neutral eye shadows.
