Do you ever think it would be better if women never wore makeup? Men would have to appreciate us for our natural beauty, not for the person we become when we wear makeup. It would also eliminate a LOT of effort, and competition between women!
But on the other hand, makeup is an art and makes us not only look, but also feel more beautiful. I act like a completely different person when I have makeup on- I feel more attractive and confident, and it shows in how I act.
What are your thoughts girls?

If a man doesn't appreciate you for your natural beauty when you don't wear makeup, even if the stuff didn't exist he still wouldn't appreciate you. That's my take on that anyway.

Personally, I don't wear makeup every day, I just bought foundation maybe 6 months ago, if that. I never needed makeup to be confident and it doesn't make me feel any more confident, not do I act differently when I wear it. For me it's just an accessory, something I play with. My boyfriend prefers my face natural as is so it's not like I wear it for him. Ultimately girls should do what ever make them comfortable and happy.

I love making an effort, as you put it. It is fun to play around with make up and to me it only enhances how beautiful someone already is. I personally wear make up as I feel it makes me look less like a corpse but I don't feel Less confident without it. I believe if you have self confidence then nothing as simple as make up should be a major factor in creating any problems with self esteem, you need to be happy with yourself and that is usually what causes people to compete with others.

You all make very valid points. @Lizeth, @Erin, I'm the exact same. I almost never wear makeup, and I only started wearing makeup around a year or two ago. My boyfriend prefers me without makeup, but I think makeup is really fun to play with and as @Meg said, it does enhance our beauty. I just think it's wrong when girls use makeup to the point of looking like a different person without it. It's kind of like 'lying' in a way, editing aspects of someone's features so they don't look like themselves anymore.

@Mikayla and @Kiki, that's the dark side of makeup. Makeup can really be abused, and used to mislead people. If a man started dating that woman and then saw her without makeup, he'd be shocked. She looks totally different. I know looks aren't everything, but she is hiding the way she naturally looks and I think it's dishonest. Makeup should be used to enhance your natural features, not completely change how you look.

Meh, I love makeup, so of women never wore it, it would be lame :/ lolol.
but I do see your point. it could eliminate SOME competition between girls, but we'll always find something. it's just the way girls are. & same with men. people are competitive beings, & are always trying to out-do each other or look better than everyone else. not wearing makeup wouldn't eliminate that, ahah.

I agree with Kyra, even if there wasn't makeup people would find other ways to enhance their natural face so its "better" than someone else's. Whether it would default to skincare techniques or some other thing people would still find ways to compete amongst each other. But for me makeup isn't a competitive thing. If other people do their makeup better or differently than me it doesn't bother me. I feel I can appreciate the work others do without getting jealous and feeling like I need to do it better. I sometimes feel INSPIRED to do something better but I don't really get jealous about it lol. And I also agree with Erin, if a guy doesn't like you without makeup he's just not going to appreciate you as a person in general. But I most definitely agree, do what makes you happy and comfortable. If someone can't appreciate you the same way with and without makeup they aren't worth it. Some color on your face shouldn't change anything lol.

@Kyra and @Caitlin, those are very valid points :) if women aren't trying to be prettier than one another, then they're trying to be thinner than one another, and so on. I think the best thing to do is just not care about what anyone thinks. If you like makeup, go for it! If not, embrace your natural beauty! It's just sad that sometimes it's used to fool people, or to inadvertently make people feel worse about themselves.
