So this may hit a nerve with every urban decay/Naked lover. But I do not like the basics palette. It is good for beginners but shouldn't beginners use a much cheaper palette? I love the other palettes but basics I feel is slightly a pointless palette and it kind of worries me when people suggest it to people who never have own a naked palette to get for x-mas. I think you could still learn using the other naked 1-3 and get more variety and more experience. Plus, I tested it out last week my friend bought it and I was disappointed a bit. What is your thoughts?

I was disappointed in that one too, sadly I own two of them because the first one I bought got lost on the way home, just found it the other day under the seat of my truck, so after buying it again and actually trying it, I now have two, thinking about giving them to my teenage niece for practice palettes.

However I'm not against it, some people might have different techniques that make the shadows pop better.

I love it! I think mattes are really good especially for younger people and it's mostly neutral shades so it won't look to dramatic for like a 13 year old. UD is expensive but I guess everyone has a different budget. When I started using makeup I used dollar store stuff but if I could have afforded better makeup at 11 I would have bought it hahah. I do think the other Naked palettes have more variety of shades and in turn a bigger variety of looks but I think the Basics is a good deal too. I dropped mine and Crave shattered so my palettes all dirty now lol.

I want this palette. I just bought the vice 2 and I was thinking that this would be a perfect tag-a-long palette.

I think the naked palettes in general have just gone too far. I don't think 3 of them AND a basic palette is necessary at all. I don't own any because I buy other palettes that have so many colors and neutrals in them that I probably have more neutrals than all the naked palettes combined. And I know the undertones are different on all of them but they still all look more or less the same to me. I also think that it's a way to make more money. They have all these people buy 1 to find out later that 2 or 3 would match their undertone better...that's sort of messed up. I know you don't have to strictly follow the whole undertone thing and they will all probably look good regardless, but still. It seems a little messed up to me and kind of like a ploy to sell more. I love Urban Decay to death, they are my go to brand and the only brand of eyeshadow I use basically. I just think the whole naked trend is overhyped. Seems like a good 90% of products all have the words "naked," "neutral" or "natural" in the product name. And the term "wearable" aka "neutral" is thrown around a lot too. A purple eyeshadow look can be just as wearable as a neutral eye look depending on how its done. I feel like this whole naked craze has gone too far. If you like neutrals that's fine and dandy but I'm tired of feeling like it's being shoved down my throat all the time. I buy most eyeshadow palettes because of the crazy colors like bright blue, purple and dark green, I have more than enough neutrals lol. But that's just my opinion of course.

I agree and disagree, it's great for beginners but it's also great for travel. I only own naked 1, but I contemplated buying it for road trips or vacations or when I'm running late where I can just bring a small palette to do at school and not have the large naked pallet in my bag. But it is too expensive just to keep in my bag lol. I agree that if people are suggesting it as a beginner palette that any other of the nakeds would be much better to learn on, more variety and you get a larger palette to play with.
I do agree with Caitlin, I was quite pissed when naked 2 came out, because I thought I liked it better and had gotten naked 1 for Christmas, and then looking at it I realized 1 is better for me with the subtle greens and reds. Now there's 3 and quite honestly I didn't even look at it. I have tons of neutrals I just like having it in one palette rather than spread around. But I have tons otherwise. I don't need anymore when 90% of those pink based naked 3 colors are in every palette as the light blending or highlight color.
But if people are suggesting it, it's just a suggestion. Whoever wants a makeup palette for Christmas will be looking them up and will decide on their own whether they want a full palette or the smaller basics. I doubt that they'd only want it because someone on here told them too.

I have them all and I like naked basics because I don't like a shimmering look all the time and when I want a matte look I have it and its great to throw in my bag.

Let me start off by saying I'm a huge UD addict. I don't own the naked basics, but I bought it for my Mom for Christmas last year. She loves it! Since she's older, she prefers matte shadows over shimmer or glitter. But she also loves purple eyeshadow, so I figured the neutrals would be good to switch it up.
I borrowed it once and wasn't very impressed. I didn't find them pigmented or blendable at all. However I admit I'm slightly biased because I'm not a huge fan of matte shadows OR light, "barely there" colors. I prefer a more obvious, dramatic look.
Is it good for a young teen just getting started with makeup? Absolutely. But I also agree that beginners should always start with drug store products first.
I don't own Naked or Naked 2, but I plan on purchasing them someday. As well as 3. I might eventually buy the Basics, just to have. But yes I do agree, that I don't understand the hype.

Never even bought that product but for a 'beginner' I think it's a high price, if I was just starting out on make-up I wouldn't be spending ridicules amounts of money on pallets, I think I'd buy a cheaper but yet good one from rimmel etc, they're probably trying to rip people off as usual. Naked 1 and 2 have some gorgeous shades though :-)

I love my basics. I use it quite often. Especially for crease and transition color. I don't think it's a beginner just because normally a younger person wants more shimmer and variety.

I think its an ok beginner palette for someone being introduced to higher end makeup. that being said, I'm not a fan of the naked line at all. I own 3 ud palettes and between them I've got plenty of neutrals plus my other palettes. I think the lorac pro is the best neutral palette though and the best value.

I bought it and returned it. I don't like matte shadows though and if I want to use one, I just use those in Naked 2.

I love mine, and not just for beginners. I don't have a lot of time in the mornings, so it's literally perfect for my everyday look to do a simple eye and all the colors I need are in that palette. I use it almost every weekday. I own the Naked 2; which I also love, but the simplicity of the basic shades in the Naked Basics is perfect for my everyday life.

I quite like it. The colors in there are perfect blending and transitional mattes. The one beautiful highlight ivory color is great. Beautiful pigmentation. And a really great palette to make a perfect pinup eye. I always have it with me for those reasons.

Hey girls interesting thread! well as you can imagine here in Argentina nobody even knows urban decay just make up addicts like me and for us it's the double or more expensive than for you. I own naked 1 because I really really wanted to try at least one urban decay palette and the truth is it's beautiful but I see that if you can't afford it you can live too lol because many of the eyeshadows are similar to other cheapers and there are really good quality brands that can replace them. Don't get me wrong I really wish UD was cheaper here but we can't get it and it's a really complicated situation here in terms of economy. Plus I think naked 3 could be replaced but I can't talk too much because I don't have it and I won't have it lol.

It was a disappointment for myself as it doesn't show up well on my lids at all even after I did all kinds of tricks...using a tinted eye primer that lightened up my lid to using paint pots. Nothing. Black was the only shade that showed up. I do have Naked 1 & 2 and while #1 favors my skintone #2 still requires a little playing around for me to make it work. Overall I'm still a fan of the whole Naked concept. Its a nice change of pace from their more vibrant palette collections.
