Resist the urge to skip haircuts. I get my hair trimmed every 8 weeks and my hair is between shoulders and elbows now. I don't overuse heat either. Il blowdry my roots but let the ends air dry.

This is weird but I found that good eating habits and good sleep helps. Use products that will protect your hair if need of heat. They have vitamins that help grow your hair (these are not miracle pills though). And shampoo's containing keratin helps. :)

Don't use a shampoo with sulfates! Sulfates strip your hair of essential oils that keep your strands healthy and moisturizes!

This may be weird but put your hair in a plait before going to sleep. it de-tangles your hair enabling for it to grow faster.

CASTOR OIL! It's too oily, so apply about 2 quarter amounts to scalp and hair before you shower. :3 (Rub it in)
