I'm planning on going to art school for college. Do any of you know any good ones ?

What aspects of art are you most interested in?
I have been to a few art colleges in my day, either for short courses, high school programs, or for actual college.
I was most interested in Fashion Design so I hopped around, trying out courses at every art school I could go to.

My favorite is Central Saint Martin's in London, England. They are absolutely amazing and they focus on all fine arts.
I spent a a lot of time at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, New York, when I was a kid. That is where I am originally from, so I too courses there every weekend of my life between the ages of 12/13 to 17 and it was amazing. The professors were excellent.
Parsons School Of Design in New York, New York is excellent.
I did my undergrad at Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Georgia. They really focus on all kinds of art, probably even things you had no idea that they existed and they make an emphasis on finding jobs when you graduate.

Other schools I can think of are:
(RISD) Rhode Island School of Design: Providence, Rhode Island
Otis: Los Angeles, California
(FIDM) )Fashion Institute of Design and Merchendising: California (at least 3 locations)
(CIA) Chicago Institute of Art: Chicago, Illinois
(SCAD) Savannah College of Art and Design: Savannah AND Atlanta, Georgia
(UArts): University of the Arts: Philadelphia Pennsylvania
Pratt Institute: Brooklyn, New York
(SVU) School of Visual Arts: New York, New York

Regular Colleges I have heard have great art programs include Bard(NY), Virginia Commonwealth University(Va), Syracuse(NY), Cornell(NY), and Yale(CT)

So the top ones are the only art schools I have been to and experienced classes at. I have at least one friend who has gone to every other college on the list (except FIDM and Syracuse), so you can ask me about pretty much any of the schools if you want.

Are there any locations you are interested in? Are there any majors or focus areas you are interested in? Do you have any tuition limits: private vs public college, instate tuition, etc?

Well I was looking at the Kansas City art institute KCAI but I was also looking at SCAD for fibers. I am in a program that is going to pay for me to go to college so tuition isn't really a problem.

How did you get to go to Central Saint Martins? Would it be worth leaving the country?

Sorry for the late response

That's amazing, you're one lucky girl!
Are you only interested in Fibers or are you looking at other degree programs? I didn't even know it was a major until I got to college, so I don't know much about who offers the program..
But some of the only people who graduated from SCAD and got awesome jobs with their degree were people I knew from the Fibers Department, its a great program at SCAD!
I don't personally know anyone who has gone to KCAI so I don't have any addition information on that, I'm sorry =(

I studied at Saint Martin's when I was in high school. I have a dual American/Italian citizenship so I would have been able to go there for free as an EEUU citizen, but the cost of living was TERRIBLE, so so so expensive! It was so expensive living in London, so I decided not to go there for a four year degree. And I was living there about 8 years ago, so it has probably gotten even worse. I think the only college that did an exchange program with Saint Martin's was Parson's at the time I was applying for colleges, so I never go to go back since I wanted to go far away from home (from NYC) =( Now I think a lot more colleges do exchange programs with Saint Martin's and London College of Fashion. I think exchange programs are a great way to experience over seas schools, but I never had the chance through SCAD. Going over there is awesome though, I love travelling and exploring, and I don't mind doing it on my own (have been since I was very young), so I definitely think going out of the country is worth it! It is amazing there!
