Okay sorry if this is long:
I use Nars sheer glow. And I'm in love. The problem is is it's expensive and I use it only for special occasions. I am on the hunt for a good drug store foundation. But, I'm not sure how to if it's the right shade for me. I'm not trying to be mean but I read previous threads with the same question and someone said to test it on your neck. But you can't really just bust open a foundation and put it back on the shelf. Also, what's a good foundation other than color stay? Thanks! :-)
Minor details: I have dry, acne prone skin :(

Try the temptalia foundation matrix, or findation.com.

First off, if you go to Walgreens and some other drug stores they may take back open products (ask about there policy when you go in). For instance I can return any cosmetic items to my Walgreens, even opened used ones, regardless of reason, sometimes it's a color issue, sometimes texture, pigmentation, etc...other then that I think there is a site called foundation finder where you can plug in what you are currently using and it will give you matches in other brands. Hope this helped.

Well, when it comes to finding your right tone, stores usually provide testers that are already open to be able to try them out. but like Kelly said, stores will usually exchange products that have been opened as long as they're lightly used & you have a receipt. if you want to avoid all that, just do what Hannah suggested. I personally really liked Revlon's Photoready foundation as well. I've also heard good things about Covergirl's 3 in 1 foundation. a lot of people suggest Maybelline's Fit Me foundation, but I found it extremely greasy, & after a while it broke me out.

Rite Aid is very forgiving of returns with a receipt. I returned a lip liner that was waaay too light and and a lipglass dupe that was too smelly, no problem.
