Lip Color For Party?

This sounds weird, but what are some standout colors that aren't too crazy to wear to a party? I want to make a statement but I don't think my friends will get the amazing dark/black lip trend (even though I've been dying to try it) :) any suggestions?

I go with a bright pink/violet lipstick. especially if you have dark hair it stands out :)
