Hey Holly
if you have dry skin the first thing is to moisturize it well. You might have to try a serum and use the serum twice a day after cleaning your face. You also need a gel based moisturize with spf and has to control the oil. I recommend for foundation elf spf 15 oil free foundation or also you can try Revlon color stay oil free version. You can invest in a domed shaped sonia kaushik brush to make the foundation even. Besides that try to also get the sonia kaushik beauty blender for a much more even foundation application. dust off with oil free translucent powder or a brightening powder by wet and wild it's so good at controlling oil and stays put all day.

Always wash and use moisturizer before hand. Give your moisturizer time to dry before applying anything else. Apply a primer. Rimmel has a good one that's inexpensive. I like smashbox primers, they have tons of different types for different skin. Give your primer time to dry before apply foundation. Apply foundation with a brush. Elf has some good ones that are inexpensive I like the sigma f80 and f84. Start light and build up to the coverage you want. It's easier to add layers than to try to take them off. I also like to use a beauty blender, not to apply foundation but to really diffuse and blend it after I've applied it with a brush. Everyone skin reacts differently to foundations. So I never recommend foundation. Because what works for me might not work for you and vice versa. I'm a big fan of getting samples from sephora. Next I use my under eye concealer. I like mac studio finish concealer. Revlon has good inexpensive ones as well. I blend my concealer into foundation with beauty blender. Next I apply a translucent power to set foundation. Then apply blush, sometimes contour and highlighter. And finish it off with Mac fix plus spray. It doesn't set your makeup, but rather take away that cakey look. Makes my face more flawless. Basically it's a lot of trial and error. Try different methods, take your time, search YouTube for foundation routine videos. Jacklyn hill is a good one. Hope some of this helped :)
