Depends on the outcome. I've seen some nice ones and some really funky ones.

I prefer regular eyelashes, eye extensions are too hard to keep up with.

I got them a few times I really like having them but they fall off fast and are expensive because you always need refills

Claudia, yes it is if you're getting them done by the right person. What you pay for is what you get. There is a difference between a $99, $150 and a $300 job. Most cheap places will do them incorrectly and clump up. That will ruin your lashes. Lash extensions can be expensive through maintenance but worth it in my opinion if you have the means for them. They give me a look that no mascara can do. It's fun to try maybe once, when you're going on a trip or something (makes getting ready and packing much easier).

I am an eyelash extension technician and if you go to somewhere reputable to get them done they should have different curls, thicknesses and lengths - meaning that they can do a set to suit you. They can be as natural or glamorous as you want but should never be too overboard, thick or long for your natural lashes as this is what will cause breakages in your natural lashes. Your technician should make an assessment on your natural lashes and keep a record on this to see how they cope with the lashes they choose for you. Yes they only last 2 to 3 weeks but that's because they're a more permanent thing so every few weeks you go for an infill - where they replace the ones that have fallen out with your natural lashes (you lose up to 3 each eye a day naturally)
In this refill your technician should assess how your lashes are coping with the extensions and this is also your chance to tell them if you would like to go shorter, longer, thicker, thinner etc. they should always start on safe ground in the first application so that you have somewhere to build up to if you would like.
You cannot wear your normal mascara with them because the oils in it will destroy the bonds of glue. You shouldn't need to wear mascara with them but if you're someone like me who loves them big and noticeable then they should offer you a special lash extension mascara which is water based.

So yeh it's up to you whether you go for it, but do your research before getting a set done at a place. Generally, but not always - you get what you pay for. I have to get them done now because I am doing them but find I am putting strip lashes on anyway over the top (which is bad for the lashes and I wouldn't recommend to do this!!) because I am use to them being super thick and amazing but the extensions I have on would be more than enough for most people lol. I find it more difficult to take my makeup off because I wear heavy eye make up daily so it's just added another 5 minutes or so to the routine because you really have to look after them if you want to keep them going. :)
