Do them while wet and you can get them tighter, they'll always have little wispies hanging out though. That's the downside of layers, at least I've never been able to get them to stay with layers. Maybe with a pomade or wax though?

Mine do that too >.< I just hide boby pins in the braid Vertically, or do my braid while wet, losen it to the desired look, then put gel over it.

I have the same problem-my trick is just bobby pins. They're my hero haha. You can always try wetting your hair and then braiding.
