I completely understand. But you can:
-prime your lips with a lip primer or put concealer: foundation over them first
-line your lips with brown lip liner so it can create the same effect on the bottom and make the transition less harsh from your skin to the lip color

Tamara thanks for posting this, my lips are naturally really red/dark so light colors always turn out looking a little odd/fake on me.
