I am a senior in High School and want to pursue a career in Cosmetology. I've been looking into good beauty schools. After doing a ton of research, I think I want to go to Aveda. Do you think this is a good choice? I am calling them tomorrow to set up a tour. I want to check out other schools as well so please recommend any good ones!

I'm in the same boat as you are! Definitely tour a lot of schools before you decide "where you want to go." Reviews online honestly mean nothing depending on the personal vibe you get from the school while touring. There are four cosmo schools in my area: Paul Mitchell and Aveda ("name brand") and Regency and Empire. I've toured all but Empire, and I have no intent to because I do not like the area it is located and the staff was very unfriendly and unhelpful in me setting up a tour to begin with.
Before touring any schools I was set on going to Paul Mitchell. I toured Regency first, and fell in love. I never had a desire to go there because it wasn't a name brand school (call it shallow, but for the same price I'd rather have a strong well known name backing me up.) Next I toured PM and realized it wasn't really for me. I toured Aveda last and I fell in love x10. The Aveda in my city (Charlotte, NC) is ENORMOUS and it's absolutely beautiful. I toured on a Saturday while classes were in session (something I really recommend) so I could get a feel of how the students dressed and just the environment as a whole. I plan on attending Aveda this fall.
With all that being said, you for sure want to set up a tour. Tour all the schools in your area, because you never know what you may like. Ask about scholarships and financial aid (Regency is hosting a national scholarship for up to $2,500 ending November 29th) and it's never to early to begin the application process. While you need a copy of your high school diploma to actually apply to most schools (Hurry up, June!) you can start collecting your references, recommendation letters and your letter of intent now.
I hope you find at least some of this useful! Good luck to you!
