Practice,.practice, practice, it's the only way to get better, it may take a few months to get good and even a few years to master makeup

I agree with Ashley everyone is like that in the beginning but you just got to keep practicing YouTube helped me so much though I felt like I had teachers lol.

NO DON't GIVE UP.
Learn all sorts of tips and tricks from YouTube and whatnot. Any particular areas you struggle with specifically?

I agree. Look at some good gurus on YouTube (Jacyln hill is my fave), practice on face charts, look at Pinterest for inspiration and try to copy it, and when you're home with nothing to do: Sit in from the mirror and just practice looks

Lolol, 2 month?! you'll have t give it more time, love.
I've bee applying makeup since I was in grade 9 (4yrs ago) & I still have SO MUCH to improve on. I takes years to learn how to properly apply makeup, not months.
practice, practice, practice. that's my best advice too you. & research! watch tutorials, read books, beauty blogs, etc. expand your knowledge as much as you can & that will help you tremendously.

The thing is that I don't understand how to even apply eyeshadow. I get mad at myself at times. I want to do my prom makeup, but I'm afraid that I'll fail miserably. My prom is in May. I'm going to keep practicing.

Another good option is just going to the mall. The makeup counters have free makeovers that you can do and ask the person to not just do your makeup but to SHOW you so you can mimic it. Ask her to just do an everyday look and then just practice practice practice until it looks like hers. Trust me, there's no one magic look that's perfect. I've been wearing makeup since I was in the 9th grade and I'm now 22. My look changes every season and no two looks are the same. It's supposed to evolve as you get older. Your face changes and your skin and skin texture changes. You're not growing up until you can look back at your yearbook and go "what in the world was I thinking?!?!"

I really agree with what everyone has been saying. I've loved makeup since I was a little girl, but I really got into makeup techniques a little over a year ago. I learned about highlighting and contouring, proper eyeshadow blending, etc. Youtube is a great help, and so is Instagram. Find some artists or beauty gurus you like and follow them on IG.
Also, Mallarie offered great advice as far as going to the makeup counter.
With eyeshadow, invest in a good primer/base (MAC's Painterly Paint Pot is my favorite, $22) and a few different brushes. A flat shader brush, a good blender brush, and then a more defined blending brush should do. It took me a long long time to find a good blender blush (they truly do make all the difference)
Lastly, it's good that you have a specific event in mind. Something I suggest is finding a look that you want to do for prom and recreate it everyday for a week. This way you'll learn different tweaks to make (for example, maybe your eyeshadow "creased" really badly on the first day or the liner on your lower lash line smudged) and you can learn how to fix and correct them in time for prom.
