How to cut my hair?

Hey guys! I'm 15 and turning 16 in 17 days and I'm wanting to get my hair cut before my birthday. I really want auburn highlights to bring out the natural red in my hair but my mom shot down that idea... Anyways I'm thinking about getting layers cut in starting at about my jawline and I'm not sure what to do with my bangs... Also my hair is naturally pretty straight. Any thoughts and ideas on hair styles? Thanks!
