I always failed miserably with curling irons lol. If you can't seem to get it, maybe try a curling wand instead. You just have to wrap your hair around it :)

I have really thick hair, and I think that's the problem. It's possible to curl, just really hard

Just wrap it around the curler with your finger. its soo easy.

Wrap hair around don't use the clip on it then roll it up and pin it (if this is confusing search youtube for pin curls)
